subsonic no longer adds new artists

Subsonic has stopped adding new artists when I scan the database.
What I do is add Artist/Album to an exFAT drive on OS X, log into subsonic and click "Scan Now". It seems to add new albums to existing artists but it doesn't add new artists to the left bar or the search. I can get new artists to load by reinstalling subsonic (I'd guess this works because I delete the database in /Library)
Is there a better solution to this problem? Even if I could connect to the db some other way I wouldn't mind clearing out all the artists and rescan the db until a better solution presents itself.
I'm using subsonic 4.7
887 artists
2,055 albums
26,053 songs
149.13 GB
1,611 hours

Most of the issues like this can be solved by unchecking all the media folders, hit save, then clean db, then recheck the folders and rescan.

What exactly do you mean by 'clean db'?
Can you explain, I'm not sure I get your meaning.

This doesn't seem to have helped. For what it's worth, with the media folder unchecked it still displayed the stats on the left hand side. cleandb hangs for a minute. when it's done it still has the stats on the left. after i recheck and save, the sidebar repopulates the media folders. scanning for new doesn't seem to do anything just as before.

Uncheck the media folders. SAVE
Scan
Clean db
Rescan with NO folders selected.
Clean db again
Recheck folders, save and then rescan.
After you unchecj the folders you need to rescan so the db sees there is nothing there, then clean the db to drop old entries. This wipes the slate clean and you shouldn't see any stats on the left. Once done, just recheck the folders and rescan.
