Hi there,

I installed the Synology package for Subsonic from http://www.cphub.net/index.php?id=40&pid=107

and tried to install it from the Package Center on the Synology.

However, encountered the Java Problem below when trying to install

Image

My Java seems to be running, as shown below..

Can some let me know how I can define JAVA_HOME. This seems to be the stumbling block at present.

Thanks in advance,

litfoo

Firstly you need to enable user home. Go control panel -> User -> User Home -> check enable user home service

Next remove your Java Embedded SE....

download the zip file here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... index.html

create a share folder name public and place the zip file there.

add this source http://packages.pcloadletter.co.uk

then install Java SE for Embedded 6 (v7 seems to be having issues with Intel Atoms units)

Once done you should be able to install subsonic

Thanks for this leong

quick question - which particular zip file am I downloading from the link you sent? http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/downloads/javase/index.html

I downloaded ARMv6/7 Linux - Headless EABI, VFP, SoftFP ABI, Little Endian1 at 26.59MB and copied it to my public shared folder - it was a .gz file however and not a zip as you mentioned in your post

Image

and then tried to install the JAVA SE for Embedded 6 from Pcloadletter

unfortunately got this error message:

any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

cheers

yes your are right its a .gz file which is another type of zip file. next you need to download the right headless client for your synology box which means you need to find out what processor is your box. if you are using the plus series then is probably an intel unit. see here to find out what processor is your unit - http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.ph ... y_NAS_have

Make sure you create a shared folder called "public" it wont work anywhere else. copy the right zip (.gz) file into here.

Thanks again leong.

I checked the link you sent.

I am using DS1812+ so I have an Intel Atom D2700 Dualcore (2C/4T) 2.13GHz x86 Processor 64-bit@DDR3, 1GB of RAM

However, with this information, I am confused as to which version to download from the link you sent at: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/downloads/javase/index.html

Am I missing something here?

great. you have an intel version.

grab this x86 Linux Small Footprint – Headless (version 6) file. remember to place it in the "public" folder which you need to create as a share point. Once you have done this correctly, you should be able to install Jave SE Embedded ver 6. Forget version 7 as it has some issues with the intel box.I can't paste the actual link here because of the similar issue Synology installer has some EULA legal crap. the file should be this - ejre-1_6_0_38-fcs-b05-linux-i586-headless-13_nov_2012.tar.gz

Cheers leong.

Managed to download the correct Java version and have installed Subsonic successfully.

Seems to be failing at the final hurdle though.

When I load myip:4040 nothing loads at all in the browser. Have checked in the Package Center within Synology admin page and Subsonic is 'running'

Any ideas why it is not loading in the browser?

Cheers

I believe by default it loads at https://myip:4041 its running or SSL port if that works and you want to run normally you need to modify subsonic.sh

first ssh/telnet into your box (i presume you know how to do this)

cd /volume1/@appstore/Subsonic
vi subsonic.sh

you will see a line that has https_port=4041 which you need to change to 0

save the file, and restart the service.

what this does is disables the SSL port. if not when you access the subsonic externally, you need to get a SSL certificate otherwise your browser will always says it is not a secure connection.

Strange. Neither 4040 nor 4041 with https works.

It just does not seem to load at all.

How can I check to see if it is actually running/working?

Cheers

easiest way is to do a telnet.

try telnet myip 4040
if you see a cursor blinking on the top left corner of the screen means the service is running, do the same for port 4041.

worst case scenario do a reboot of the box and then try again.

Will try the telnet when I can get to a PC. Working off an ipad at the moment.

I rebooted by Synology NAS to see if that made a difference. On reboot, Subsonic says it is running again, but same behaviour.

Nothing loads when I go to myip:4040

I looked at my subsonic.sh file via Putty.

Shows:

SUBSONIC_HOST=0.0.0.0
SUBSONIC PORT=4040

Have no idea why it is not loading :?

try checking the logs in package management under subsonic there is a log tab. if you can't start up there might be a reason stated there.

Merry Christmas :D

hmmm... looks like it is installed correctly. now its getting more difficult to troubleshoot. i presume you are accessing it internally, if externally you may have to port forward (which I believe you know what that means). you could try the app see if it works. if on mac go to app store and grab "thumper" its free now. if on your iPad, i use iSub but that is not free. sorry on the pc i only use the browser.

when you mentioned nothing loads, any errors or just page not found.
