Subsonic 4.7 Playback stops abruptly!

Hello all,

Info about my configuration:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 16GB RAM Intel i5 3.8Gh CPU
Java x64 Version 7 Update 9 (build 1.7.0_09-b05) http://i49.tinypic.com/2cz7hp5.png
No Java x86
Subsonic 4.7 installed on my SSD boot drive (Drive C: )
300GB music collection on my second hard drive (Drive D: )
I use Subsonic as my own iTunes as far as playing music, and I usually just cache the music to my iPhone using iSub.

My problem is that since I got a new computer (custom build), Subsonic's web player will randomly stop playing a track and "reset itself", meaning I can't hit play again on the song, the time signature is at 0:00, and no matter how many times I click other songs or hit the plauy button, it refuses to play the song. The only way I can get that song to play again is to either clear my browser cache and refresh the page, or reboot my computer. It will play other songs on the albums fine, and it doesnt always have problems with the same songs (i.e. today it might freeze while playing Example Track 1, and tomorrow it plays the whole track fine as if nothing was wrong.)

Initially I thought maybe it was my computer putting the hard drive to sleep, so I disabled that in Power Management. That didn't fix it.
Next I thought maybe reinstalling Subsonic would fix it. Nope.
Finally I realized maybe there would be something in subsonic.log for me to see regarding the issue. Nope. Going by the timestamps, the only things the log has is Last.fm scrobbles. The last error in the log was an hour before I had a problem, and it was an HTTP streaming error regarding my phone, which is unrelated.

Help? This is driving me nuts! :(

The Windows install of Subsonic is probably the easiest to do and is very stable IF it is installed properly. Assuming that there are no other underlying hardware or OS issues I would suggest that you just do a clean reinstall. SOme may argue to troubleshoot this or that, but in my experience it's just faster and easier to start over unless you have extensive modifications or tons of other users registered to use your current install.

Seeing this is your 3rd post, I assume this is a relatively new install and just starting over clean is probably the easiest answer.

Uninstall Subsonic through Control Panel/ Programs and Features.

Uninstall all Java entries in Control Panel/ Programs and Features.

Clean install the latest Java, Start with a fresh Java install to the latest version. If you use a 64 bit browser be sure to get both 32 & 64 bit Java.

Install Subsonic latest version.

Sometimes things just get messed up somewhere and it takes more time to figure it out than just redoing.

There is a ton of information to help if you have problems here:

If that isn't enough just ask and someone will help.

I've been using Subsonic for over a year now and this is the first time I've ever had a problem like this. Earlier today I reverted to Subsonic v4.6 and it seems to be back to normal... I guess I'll wait until there's a new version of Subsonic past 4.7 before I upgrade again.

Thanks for your reply.

I take it back, it even happens with a fresh install (and fresh database) on v4.6... wtf!

Maybe Java or flash is to blame? It happens in both Firefox and Chrome.

I've been having this problem too, song will stop playing at random intervals, but with this difference: my SS runs on PC2 and the problem ONLY occurs when playing files on PC1. Playing music on my pc at work, directly from the PC with SS or even Android will not generate the problem. So it can't be the SS that is at fault, it must be something on my main PC, especially since this problem started occurring since I upgraded my PC some time ago. Maybe something to do with the network interface? I don't know. I will try to tweak some variables on my network card and report back.

Anyone have a clue?

My system specs (for the pc in fault):
Windows 7 X64
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
8 GB RAM
Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

Just FYI I still have this problem... I've learned to ignore it since no one here has a clue :(

I know! I resorted to playing my music with Winamp on my main PC...
But do you agree it should be something on a particular PC? Have you tried a different PC?

It's just my PC. Clients dont have an issue.

Just noticed the problems also occurs with Minisub in Chrome
Perisope Player 1.5 seems to be working though. :) But, with 280,000+ songs, loading Periscope takes a long, long time... :?

Hmmm, 280,000+ songs is definitely the most I've heard of anyone pushing into Periscope! I'll see what I can do to speed up the load time on larger libraries.

This seems to have just started happening to me on my Windows Vista machine, using Chrome. SS is a WAR install on WinXP SP3. What I've noticed is that playback stops abruptly only on some songs and its only when I use Chrome (haven't tried FF). Will tinker a bit more and if I find anything I'll post.

Just instaled FF and the player indicates that I need to "Get Flash Player" so sounds like there may be a problem with Flash??

My issue magically disappeared but it was replaced with a new problem where iPhone streaming refuses to download or play the third song of any album on my server. Wonderful.

I tried deleting Chrome browsing data, to no avail. I then noticed the issue was only happening when using one player from the list of players. I deleted that player and the issue has not returned. Maybe delete the player associated with your iPhone.

I've had no issues with Chrome since deleting the player.
