Hello, I just got my Subsonic server up and running last night and it is working great. The problem I found today is that I frequently need to use a VPN service while using my computer and I guess because it assigns me an anymous IP address I am unable to connect to my computer to play music while the VPN client is running :( Does anyone know of a work around for this problem, or I am just missing something obvious? Thank you for any assistance.

My server is running SS and using a vpn np.
Are you using yourname.subsonic.org address to access ?
If so start you vpn then access SS via local host or using your internal lan ip:port no
Then go to settings/network and hit the save button.
This will update the SS redirect to your new IP address.

After I posted this, I ran across another thread that gave the same advice; however, when I do it, I get a message that says Status: "cmelton14.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (HttpHostConnectException)" and when I try to connect to the site from another machine, I get the "Web page not available. The web page at http://79.141.164.22:4040 might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address." 79.141.164.22 is the address the VPN is giving me. Strangely, I am still able to connect through the SS android app though. Any thoughts? I appreciate your help, thanks.

Your site doesn't respond from here so you have port forwarding or firewall issues.

If you can open your site inside your network, but I can't reach it from outside using ip:port format then either the router isn't sending the request to the host machine (or not to the right port) or the firewall is blocking the request.

I am pretty new to this, was impressed that I got it up and running at all last night. I believe that I have the port number correct, not sure how or what may need to be done to the firewall. I listned to it all day from work w/o my VPN being on.

If you log into canyouseeme.org and enter the SS port number it will tell you if it's open or closed. You will never connect from outside if canyouseeme says the port is closed.

I'm a Windoze creature, but there are Linux guys around that may help you if you pos as much detail regarding your setup as you can.

The problem here is that, once you are connected to your VPN, it is the default gateway on THAT network that needs to be configured to forward the ports to your VPN IP address. But you said yourself that the VPN address is not static.

While you might get this to work with the help of whomever owns the VPN, you would be better off either getting them to allow "split tunneling" on the VPN, which it the right way to solve your problem.
