Some songs appear to play, but fail to have sound

Problem Description: When trying to play back some of the songs in my collection using the built-in web browser player the time indicator moves and appears to be playing the song, but there is no audio. Other songs are just fine. Not sure what the difference is in the files. In any case, the same mp3 file plays correctly in VLC but also has no audio in Windows Media Player.
Troubleshooting Steps: Tried different browsers, different player settings, etc. Can't seem to find a combination that allows the song to play with audio other than playing it outside of Subsonic. This has been going on for a while now (over a year) with different versions of Subsonic. Since VLC is able to play the file it seems that it isn't corrupt, but there must be something about it that prevents Windows Media Player and Subsonic from correctly playing it.
Playback Application and version: Browser with built-in player.
Subsonic Version: 4.7 (build 3106) – September 12, 2012
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_18, Windows Server 2008 (125.7 MB / 230.2 MB)
Hardware Platform: HP Server with Windows Server 2008 Standard (Build 6002: Service Pack 2)
Java Memory Limit: 1024
Problem Filename: 1984\84_21 Prince - Let's Go Crazy.mp3

As I expected the file has problems - running through MP3 validator came back with this:-

Analyzing file "84_21 Prince - Let's Go Crazy.mp3"...
WARNING: "84_21 Prince - Let's Go Crazy.mp3" (offset 0x664787): It seems that file is truncated or there is garbage at the end of the file

Used that to repair the file and just tested with SS 4.6 and it now plays np.

Do you have a link to this utility? Or is it easy to find the correct version in Google?

I have a few files that seem to play just fine on my computer but when going through Subsonic (transcoding is disabled on all players now since it doesn't seem to work with over half my library now) it'll play a bit of the song, then just cut it off and switch to the next song.

The one I use can be found here
That fixes most issues but sometimes cannot fix bad vbr headers. For that I use VBRFix

Thanks for taking a look at this issue and also for recommending a nice (and free) tool to fix any files with problems. :D

I've found a program that seems to do all of this and more :) Just wanted to update everyone else.

The program is MP3Diags. There is a standard and unstable version.. which I have not noticed anything being "unstable" in using it over the course of a few months on over 50GB of files.

http://mp3diags.sourceforge.net/ There is quite a learning curve in it and a lot of stuff to read about precautions (basically what the program does and doesn't do.. and how it does it) but after that, it's a breeze to use and can fix a lot of files at once.

The only problems I've had was where the song was somehow composed of over 100 broken streams.. and removing these in the program effectively makes the song unplayable. I would suggest backing up your music that you use on this, just in case :) In the previous case, just opening the song in Audacity and exporting again fixes that problem.
