can't get this working

Hey everyone

i'm new to this one. switching from audiogalaxy since they shut down.

ok so...i'm trying to get this set up. i have d/l'd the server version for Win7. i've followed the instructions as laid out in the FAQs page.

1)installed and opened SS in the browser and logged in as the admin.
2) connected to my music/video folders.
3) created my user account

- now when trying to get all my networking set up is where i'm having issues.

4) on the Test server locally step. i can get to the server page on the server PC. however, it will not allow me to reach the page my other computers within the network.

5)router setup - i know my IPs and my MACs. however my router does not allow me to assign a static IP to my PCs. i've done some research though i could probably do more and i can't find a way to get it to do it. i am using a Belkin - F9K1102v1

- i set my port forwarding for 4040 and i could still get on the browser page on the host pc however i tried changing it to 8080 and it would not reach it anymore.

6) my phone (android) -
- i installed the app. i tested it's connection to the demo server and was unable to connect to it consecutively. when i could and i tried to play a song it would not load and play at all. i also cannot get it to connect to my host PC

Also i cannot connect to the browser page on any other PC in the network regardless of being able to get to it on the host pc.

does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Read http://monroeworld.com/android/subsonic/
That should give you all the info needed.

That is the guide i'm already using and it isn't helping me any. i've followed it exactly and it still doesn't work

Use the Console (system tray) to set the port to 4040, then stop and restart the server (indeed you should ideally stop and restart after making changes). Once we fix the port, we can begin to troubleshoot. In the interim, I'll look over your router manual.

edit to add:

i've done that as well. every time i attempted a different port number i changed it on the console and restarted the service. still no joy

The above link also details setting a static IP on your server (using your server lan/wlan adapter).

yeah i know but i can't get my router to assign an static IP without completely turning off the DHCP and then i can't get my wireless machines to connect so i can't assign them. and even with turning the DHCP off so i can assign it like it says i should be able to in the description on the router there is not options afterwards to actually assign it

You will manually assign the server computer an IP (or simply enter the IP it already has) using your lan/wlan adapter settings..NOT your router. The directions are in that link.

didn't notice the edit added link. but i am already aware of how to set up a static IP through the OS. i tried that as well. and the machine lost the internet connection completely afterwards.....but i'll give it another shot tomorrow.

You'll need to set a static IP, then fix the port (I recommend leaving it at default 4040), THEN you go about testing access..anything else would be futile.

FWIW this is usually caused by incorrect DNS settings so don't forget to change/add them too, not just IP/subnet. I recommend OpenDNS for both router and clients. Good luck!

Ok i followed those steps. got the computer to a fixed IP. then corrected the ports.

i can open subsonic using MYNAME.subsonic.com on the host PC but not from another PC in the network

Is it passing the canyouseeme.org test for your selected port? (localhost working is normal).

Ok so canyouseeme said NO! so there is an issue with my port not actually opening
