how to order tracks by album?

Postby nitche » Mon Mar 11, 2013 2:52 pm

hello,

i installed subsonic on my server and imported a lot of music. i have one folder by artist, and no sub-folders for albums (it's a mass importation from my player at home).
now, i would like to order my tracks by album name, but i don't see the option. is it possible? or do i have to create ALL subfolders for albums to have a clean display?

Do you want your media collection displayed completely by tags or completely by folder structure, or something in between?

the best would be by tags, like in a player like rhythm'box or winamp where i can browse by artist or by albums :D

Then you might be interested in this: http://dilerium.se/musiccabinet. There are pros and cons, so what server you'll want completely depends on your personal requirements.

this add-on sounds great!

but i don't know how to install it :(
i'm using an ubuntu server. i installed postgre, but i don't know what to do with this step:
"Run the Windows installer, use the stand-alone version or the Tomcat war."
do i have to run a java command or something like that?

It depends on how used you are to working with the terminal. If you download the stand-alone zip file, it contains a file named subsonic.sh which basically starts your server (if you have Java 7 installed and on your path).

You'll have to play around a bit with it, set executable rights on it etc. I ran across a write-up on the internet: http://virtuallyhyper.com/2013/02/insta ... -subsonic/

But there's no one-click-installer, so it's kind of on your own risk, if it seems worth it.
