Problem Description: My phone (LG Google Nexus 4) will not connect to my personal Subsonic server over 3G/HSPA+, though it will locate and connect to the Subsonic demo server over 3G/HSPA+, and it will locate and connect to my personal Subsonic server over my home wi-fi.

The redirect service was down until very recently.

Restart your Subsonic server, or at least go to the network page and "save" the custom domain name and it should register correctly.

Sorry to say-- I recognized Subsonic's servers were temporarily down as even their website was inaccessible for a few hours.

I waited until it came back up and tried a server restart plus re-saving my custom domain name.

That did nothing and the problem persists. I get "A network error occurred. Please check the server address or try again later."

If you just did it recently, the redirect service is down again.

My quick check is always to fire up http://demo.subsonic.org. If that doesn't work, it is probably the redirect service.

Thanks Glenn. That is my quick check too, but it's not inidicative of anything.

I check my connection to http:\\demo.subsonic.org via my phone's 3G/HSPA+ every single time before attempting to connect to my own named server.

And every single time, I receive the message "Connection is OK" from the Subsonic demo server within two seconds; then when immediately afterward attempting to connect to my own server in the same manner, I receive the message "A network error occurred. Retrying X of 4" four times, then "A network error occurred. Please check the server address or try again later."

Is the redirect server continually down (except for the demo server)? This isn't just a recent problem in light of the server issues you demonstrated by your server message charts in the other thread-- I have literally never been able to connect to my personal server via 3G/HSPA+ since I subscribed to the Subsonic service.

Then that is not your problem...

Try each of these and let me know where it fails. Once it fails you don't need to continue on:

1. On the subsonic server, open
Code: Select all
http://127.0.0.1:YourHTTPPort/YourContextPath
Does Subsonic open? If you log on, does it work?
2. On the subsonic server, open
Code: Select all
http://Your.Server.Internal.IPAddress:YourHTTPPort/YourContextPath
Does Subsonic open? If you log on, does it work?
3. On a different computer on the same network open
Code: Select all
http://Your.Server.Internal.IPAddress:YourHTTPPort/YourContextPath
Does Subsonic open? If you log on, does it work?
4. From outside the firewall (ie, from a computer NOT on your network, like a friend at his house) open
Code: Select all
http://Your.Server.External.IPAddress:YourHTTPPort/YourContextPath
Does Subsonic open? If you log on, does it work?
5. From outside the firewall (ie, from a computer NOT on your network, like a friend at his house) open
Code: Select all
http://YourCustomDomainName.subsonic.org
Does Subsonic open? If you log on, does it work?
6. From the subsonic server computer, open
Code: Select all
http://YourCustomDomainName.subsonic.org
Does Subsonic open? If you log on, does it work? if not, what address (if any) are you redirected to?
7. From a different computer on the same network as the Subsonic Server, open
Code: Select all
http://YourCustomDomainName.subsonic.org
Does Subsonic open? If you log on, does it work?

Let me know where it fails.

Thanks Glenn. I tried every step since I figured it might be more illustrative. Everything works except when I try to connect from outside the firewall in #4 and #5.

I'm going through a LinkSys E3000 and I had figured port 4040 was forwarded properly, but obviously not... if you can tell me what I've been doing wrong, I'd really appreciate the help.

Subsonic opens and works. (used Chrome from Nexus 4 as test)

http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... bsonic.htm

Ignore the part where it tells you to also forward port 80... if you have subsonic set to port 4040 and are not using SSL, all you need to forward is port 4040.

Once you are done the test at http://www.canyouseeme.org/ should work for the ports you have chosen.

Thanks Glenn! I deleted the instructions to forward to port 80 and retried successfully to connect to Subsonic in mobile Chrome using both the external IP address and my personal server address.

I can also connect through the app.

Thanks again for your help and attention!!!!
