Suddenly cannot connect via Android Device

Postby innerspaceboy » Sun Mar 17, 2013 12:56 am

Problem Description:
Suddenly, halfway through the day, I receive the "Unable to connect" error via my Android Firefox app and "A network error occurred" error from the Subsonic Android app.

Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Stopped and re-started the Subsonic process on my PC's desktop
2. Rebooted.
3. Ensured my VPN service was not running.
4. Stopped Subsonic, deleted all files in the c:\subsonic\db folder, restarted Subsonic
5. Connected through my PC's browser, re-entered all my user information
6. Changed default admin PW, created my normal user, granted admin privileges, added my F:\Audio and F:\Video folders, etc, waited for all data to update
7. Ensured the box was checked for username subsonic address. Registered successfully.
8. Logged out, stopped and re-started Subsonic.
9. Read the latest log - all appears normal.
10. Connects to DEMO account fine, times out on my user account.

Playback Application and version: Subsonic android app (version ??)

Server Version: Subsonic Version: 4.7 (build 3106)
Hardware Platform: Windows 7
Java Memory Limit: 500
Output from ffmpeg -i: not a recognizable command.

10,629 hours of media... waiting to come back online.

Looked up G751's suggestion from the last time this happened last December. Sure enough, canyouseeme can't see me.

Error: I could not see your service on xx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (4040)
Reason: No route to host

Logged into my router. Port 4040 is forwarded for Subsonic as it always is.
Subsonic has elevated permission in my Windows Firewall.
I can connect to user.subsonic.org locally but not from outside the PC.

What did I break?

As stated many times - if you can't canyouseeme it ain't gonna work.

Verify that your internal ip address has NOT changed and that requests for 4040 are being sent to the correct internal ip address.

Verify that the firewall on the host machine is not blocking the traffic.

If you're connecting internally from other devices (not the host machine) then it's not likely the firewall on the host machine.

You most likely are not getting the forwarding done properly at the router. Verify the details of the forwarding rule very carefully and maybe try rebooting the router. 99% of the time this is a router issue.

There is also the possibility that your isp has recently changed your EXTERNAL ip and the new ip has not yet been updated at subsonic.org.

Go to settings/network in Subsonic and "Save: the settings.

What if any error message is generated?

It should respond with:

"Status: Successfully registered web address. "

You can also test if the redirection is the problem by trying to connect from outside using your EXTERNAL IP:PORT#

eg. http://74.110.53.107:8088/subsonic should get you to my logon screen, the same as using http://xw8600.subsonic.org

This is always the first test I run when I suspect that redirection from subsonic.org is failing as was the case just recently. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

1. Unplugged modem
2. Unplugged router
3. Plugged in modem
4. Plugged in router
5. Locally connected to subsonic control panel
6. Settings -> Network -> Save
7. Connected fine from mobile device.
8. Bookmarked the steps above for next time.

Next time you visit Buffalo I'll buy you a drink.

Thank you.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my post from 11:20 -

Resetting the router and modem and then stopping and restarting the Subsonic process instantly resolved the issue.

Thanks!

I tried that method, twice now and nothing is working. I already confirmed on the DSUB forum that it is not the app. ANy ideas as to why I keep getting "A network error occurred" on the Android app? I've already looked elsewhere on the forums for help on this and found nothing that would work.

thank you
