[Resolved] Error 503 on WinXP v4.6 & 4.8

Postby FreeMan » Sat Apr 20, 2013 5:33 pm

Hi all-

I've had 4.6 running for quite a while on my WinXP host, and had issues with 4.7 when it came out, so I reverted to 4.6. About a week or so ago, I started getting Error 503 when going to localhost:4040, and I couldn't connect from my Android client.

Finally, today, I decided to uninstall & reinstall, figuring that would do the trick, and that seemed to be the solution for the 4.7 issues people were having. I decided to check, and noticed that 4.8 was now available, so I installed that instead.

Unfortunately, I'm still getting Error 503 from the machine that subsonic is running on when I go to localhost:4040.
Image 2 shows that subsonic is actually started on localhost:4040.
Image 1 shows the error I'm getting (because nobody's ever seen a 503 before...)
The Server log is here: http://pastebin.com/6DrfJb9C It seems to me that at the end it says it's running.

Anybody have a suggestion of what may be wrong? Is there any additional information you need to dig into? I really like subsonic, and have been using it for years, and I'm disappointed that it's been non-functional for a week now.

Thanks,
FreeMan

Not a single suggestion? No tips, hints or things to check? Very disappointed - I've been using this great service for years, paid for clients and now, nothing.

Try a complete uninstall/reinstall of java.

I uninstalled/reinstalled Subsonic - same error.

I uninstalled/reinstalled Java 7.21 - same error.

503 is a database error. Uninstall java, uninstall Subsonic through control panel, delete C:\Subsonic, reboot the host machine install java - latest version, install Subsonic, start all over form the beginning.

Sucks - don't it?

The weakest part of Subsonic is the lack of any protection for a database error. An improper shutdown is the most likely culprit that corrupts the db.

This has been written about 10k+ times - just use search: 503 error and you'll see you're not alone.

Pissed about losing all your data - users and history? Learn to back up the C:\Subsonic directory once a week so that you don't have to start from scratch next time.

Oy. Just went through all of that except I didn't uninstall both at the same time. Guess I'll do that.

Not really that upset about losing data/users/history - I have all the users & pwds stored (they're my kids, I get to know their passwords) in KeePass; data - it'll rebuild the database; history - meh, don't care what I've listened to last, just what's coming next.

Mostly just annoyed that I have to go through this. Usually I'm a bit more on the ball, not sure why it never occurred to me to search for "error 503".

Thanks for the tip, GJ51.

Off I go again...

That seems to have done the trick. Trying Hakki's MediaCabinet fork, so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks again!
