Why does podcast not work, I try to subscribe in iTunes and I got it to work once on my TiVo box but it will not work anymore, I tried to reinstall Tomcat and then Subsonic and that did not work.. What do I need to do to get it working?

Thanks,

Hi Mark,

Can you please provide a more detailed description of what steps you did and what is not working?

Are you using iTunes or TiVo? Also, please attach any relevant info from the subsonic.log file.

Regards,

Well there is not much in the error logs, When I go into iTunes to subscribe to the podcast I put http://192.168.1.206:8080/subsonic/podcast and then iTunes askes me for a username and password. then it says "There are no playable episodes for "Subsonic Podcast". The URL might point to text only episodes, or contain file types that iTunes cannot play."

I have a TiVo and it has a podcaster on it, I got it to work one time but when I type in the URL and click on "Find Podcast" it says "Sorry there was a problem successfully connecting to the feed. Please check the URL and try again."

I am also having a similar issue, none of my media players that are able to play podcasts, will open or find any episodes from the subsonic generated podcast which is supposed to list saved playlists.

I found this warning in the subsonic log and I am wondering if it is related to the issue:

WARN PodcastService Failed to get/parse RSS file for Podcast channel http://myhostname[<-edited]/subsonic/podcast

Also this is the error itunes gives when i update the podcast from itunes:

"There are no playable episodes for 'Subsonic Podcast'.
the url might point to text-only episodes, or contain file types that iTunes cannot play."

my podcast directory is located inside the music directory and I created the folder with full permissions.

The playlist folder is outside of the music directory but also has full permissions. I checked it and the playlists are located inside.

I also loaded the podcast rss into firefox as a live bookmark to make sure it was listing the playlist names, which it was. Im not sure what else to do to make subsonic's generated podcast work, because I really like the idea of that feature.

Do you guys have any ideas?

The Subsonic podcast RSS is protected by username/password. Which Podcast receiver do you use, and are you asked to input username/password (in the receiver) when you add the Subsonic podcast?

I tried itunes, wmp, and winamp. All asked for username and password, which i entered. and from there itunes and the other players gave similar errors to the one quoted above from itunes. Winamp just stated the format was unreadable or somesuch, itunes error description was the most informative.

Im not sure if this is important or not, but subsonic and tomcat are installed on the Ubuntu server 7 OS

Same problem

Postby tsm11 » Sat Dec 06, 2008 8:49 pm

I switched my windows mobile phone out for an iPhone. I am having the same problem. Even with Fstream I cannot get my subsonic app to play on my iPhone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

As for the podcast, I get the same as others in this thread using iTunes; it asks for a username and password but says that there are no episodes in the podcast.

Sorry for the resurrection of the topic, but I'm having the same problem here. I was in the process of trying to figure out how to get my music to stream to my iphone and thought to try a podcast.

I open my podcast URL in iTunes, enter the password, and there's no podcasts available. It says "Subsonic Podcast" in the window, but nothing under it.

I'm using the windows version 3.5 (build 709)

I'm having the same issue- podcasting to iphone doesn't work. I thought of it also as a last ditch resort to get some kind of iPhone compatibility with Subsonic but no luck.

Has anyone out there ever got podcasting to work from Subsonic to an iPhone? Could you tell us how and with what client app? Or is it Subsonic bug?

Thanks!

Podcast Not Working

Postby WIL » Fri Jul 31, 2009 4:41 am

I too can not get podcasting to broadcast. I have entered my username and password and I can 'see' the Subsonic Podcast page. But I am getting the same error message as spooty2y and yapok are getting:

WARN PodcastService Failed to get/parse RSS file for Podcast channel http://myhostname[<-edited]/subsonic/podcast

Also this is the error itunes gives when i update the podcast from itunes:

"There are no playable episodes for 'Subsonic Podcast'.
the url might point to text-only episodes, or contain file types that iTunes cannot play."

my podcast directory is located inside the music directory and I created the folder with full permissions.

The only thing I can figure is it's a permission issue due to the the Error 401 I get when I try to get Subsonic to subscribe to itself. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop with LAMP. Do I need to re-visit my directory permissions?

Thanks for taking a look at this topic again!
