SS 4.8 Firefox / Flash crash when trying to Transcode

Postby studog » Mon Apr 29, 2013 8:42 am

I just setup a new server for subsonic 4.8 and every time I try to load music that needs to be Transcoded like WMA or Flac in Firefox, Flash crashes. I have been able to listen to music just fine through the Android app and in Internet Explore. Also my old server running 4.7 seems to be running just fine with Firefox.

On both installs I am using the default Transcoding settings that are installed with Subsonic.

NEW Server Details:
Ubuntu 12.10 (GNU/Linux 3.5.0-27-generic x86_64)
Version 4.8 (build 3434) – April 17, 2013
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_21, Linux (198.9 MB / 655.6 MB)

OLD Server Details:
Windows Server 2003 Version 5.2 (Build 3790.srv03_sp2_gdr.130306-1435 : Service Pack 2)
Version 4.7 (build 3106) – September 12, 2012
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_21, Windows 2003 (59.6 MB / 129.2 MB)

Desktop Testing from:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack1)
Firefox Version 20.0.1
Adobe Flash Player 11.7.700.169
Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0.2.122
Java Version 7 Update 21

I saw the post of Subsonic not being compatible with Java 1.7 but have not really seen any info as to what the issues really are and how they affect the end user. Is this one of them?
If anyone could shine some light on this that would be great. Also if more info is needed please let me know.

Thanks
Stuart

I solved my problem with firefox. I have a seedbox with ubuntu server 10.10 and I follow this thread:
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/install- ... u-via.html

After a restart of subsonic service it is ok now!

I always had this problem with every SS version where Firefox (which ever version affected all of them) wouldn't play the video. I just resulted in using IE for only videos and it works that way.. kind of annoying but it works :)

geronimoo,

Thanks for the info. I was running the OpenJDK 7 JRE on my server. I removed this and followed the instructions you linked and BAM! Good to go. This would also explain why on my old server running Windows I had no issues with Java... Because I was running the Sun/Oracel Java.

So I can confirm that on Ubuntu 12.10 (GNU/Linux 3.5.0-27-generic x86_64) running Subsonic Version 4.8 (build 3434) – April 17, 2013. Uninstalling the openjdk-7-jre and fallowing the instructions here. http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/install-oracle-java-jdk-7-in-ubuntu-via.html to install the Oracel Java Version 7 worked and fixes the issues I was having with Firefox and Transcoding.

Thanks again!

Heyho,

sorry for bringing back this thread but i currently have exactly the same problem.

Flash crashes when it tries to playback transcoded music. But only in FF, IE works great.

The solution in this thread doesn't help me, since I have Windows Server 2003.

Sys info:
Code: Select all
Version 4.9.beta3 (build 3772) – 14. Dezember 2013
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_45, Windows 2003 (94,4 MB / 145,0 MB)

Downsample command:
Code: Select all
ffmpeg -i %s -ab %bk -v 0 -threads 1 -f mp3 -

Any solutions?
