"A Network Error Has Occurred..." Over Home WIFI

I just installed last night on my Archlinux box. I got things running, jukebox works fine. I have two cell phones that I have installed both dsub and subsonic clients. To simplify things, and to test things out, I'm trying to connect to the server via the it's local address (which is static). That way, I don't have to worry about port forwarding or anything, they simply are not a factor. I've also flushed my IP tables, the only rules there were for SSH anyway.
so far i've:

On the server side:

1. Installed
2.configured directories
3. setup users
4.verified that the jukebox worked

Client side:

For my nexus 4, and my droid x2:

1. installed both dsub and subsonic clients via f-droid.(when one didn't work, I installed the other)
2. connected to your demo server to prove that the clients do work
3. entered my username, local lan IP address (static),
4. attempted to connect, and failed.
5. used busybox to "ping" my server. It worked as expected.

Am I missing something obvious?

Sorta obvious...SS runs on a specific port, so should be part of your address (eg, 10.0.0.0:4040).

I thought port 4040 was hardcoded, and therefore unnecessary. Whatever, it worked. Thanks.
