my subsonic.org address

Postby tripaphonic » Fri Aug 09, 2013 3:40 pm

I've had this problem for years and I can't find a solution on the forums.

My IP address is dynamic. It changes often enough for me to use a DYNDNS redirection for many things other than subsonic. I purchased the premium version with several donations over the years and registered tripaphonic.subsonic.org as my address and every time my IP changes this DNS redirection stops working. I end up having to message Sindre to get it fixed and that takes time because he's a busy guy... as we all are. Is there a solution to this problem yet?

How are the IPs updated for people who have premium service with DNS redirection over subsonic.org???

The redirect service is (we think) updated every 2 hours but if you go to settings/network and hit save that will force an update with your new IP address.

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

I have the same problem and it's definitely not 2 hours i would say more than a day I tested it with my dyndns account and it really bugs me because isub only works with the xxx.subsonic.org not with my ddns and with port so that's definitely something that needs attention

What a strange limitation! Have you contacted the iSub developer?

If you can, try using no-ip.com I find it to be more stable than dyndns, it doesn't change as much. Also if you know your WAN IP address and the port number you're using. If you have properly setup port forwarding then you should be able to login to your server by typing in the WAN IP address and port number into a browser, then the router will recognize the port number and forward to the proper location. Syntax is: 123.456.789.123:4040 or something similar. Also for those of you running Windows, if you have some technical background, and a spare computer, try running Linux versus Windows. It takes some practice to get used to Linux, but I think you'll find Linux to be easier to setup and run more efficiently. The way I do things is I have a server setup in my basement, then I'll login with my various window machines, then when I want to transfer songs, videos, etc... I'll do what is called FTP. My app of choice is Filezilla (free), also I'll use another app called Putty. It allows me to remote into my machine with a command prompt GUI. I hope this helps some of you.

Good Luck
