Network address not forwarding correctly

Running 4.8. SS reports the port and the name forwarded correctly. When I ping the address it resolves to:
66.49.215.227

Any suggestions to get this working?
Thanks.

Something different.

Can anyone provide any insights as to why this isn't working?

If you are pinging your *.subsonic.org address, then the IP address that comes back is one of Sindre's servers. He has it set up to forward to whatever your external IP address is.

Problem is (and it's been documented, but not resolved) that if you try connecting to your own *.subsonic.org URL from within your own network, it will try to resolve to the IP address of the machine you are currently using. If you happen to be using the same machine the server is on, it will work, but if you are on another machine in your network, and your Subsonic server is on a different machine, you will get a 404 error.

Currently, the only resolution I have found is to use a "DynDNS" type service to create your own "domain" and point it to your external IP address.

I don't :?
Your router SHOULD loop back to your server so after initially getting the external IP:port no from the subsonic redirect server your router should say "hey thats me"
and no other traffic will leave your domain.

And to the OP I am glad you have now informed us that you have a problem rather then just telling us what Sindre's server current IP address is.
I suggest reading viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5506 first but to start with go into settings/network and hit save.
That will update the redirect server and will also report back any errors encountered.

I had no idea pinging the mydomain.subsonic.org and returning the subsonic ip address was a known problem/issue/feature. I don't remember this happening before.

Anyway, if I am away from my LAN, mydomain.subsonic.org doesn't resolve to my server but mydomain.minidns.net does. This is mildly annoying as it makes sharing links with others via email pretty much useless.

Does anyone know how I might determine if the problem is with me, or somewhere else?

What problem? I don't see how anything you've described causes any problem.

I can access any of my Subsonic sites using:

http:\\myserver.subsonic.org
http:\\External ip:port number
http:\\mydomain.remotewebaccess.com:port number

I can create links in emails using any of the above formats. I can also substitute any of the formats

http://myserver.subsonic.org/share/qGcOA
http:\\External ip:port number/share/qGcOA
http:\\mydomain.remotewebaccess.com:port number/share/qGcOA

and they all work.

What problem are you having?

If your Subsonic vanity domain isn't resolving correctly from outside your LAN, then you don't have the port forwarding set up correctly or the firewall is blocking, but the firewall shouldn't be the issue if your getting to the site on the host machine from other devices. Go to canyouseeme.org and test to see if the port is open.
