Some new folders not displaying?

Postby Azagthoth » Tue Sep 10, 2013 4:08 am

I'm running version 4.8 and since been using the past couple versions, I've been running into a problem with missing newly added folders. What I don't understand is that I'm able to add some newly added music into subsonic, but when adding other new folders - even with a scan there's nothing that comes up. I thought maybe there would be an issue with the way the files or folders were named? But there were no differences.

My folder layout goes as Music/Genre/Artist/Album/Track.

I've tried moving the folder out and back in, setting permissions, reinstalling, clean-up database, re-scan, looked at other posts and no luck.

Running subsonic on my desktop.

I'm seeing this too. I added 4 new albums and only had 2 show up after (now) multiple re-indexes. My structure is Music/Artist/Album/Tracks

I'm over 20000 tracks in the collection. Could it a be a volume issue?

I have noticed this too. Sometimes if I rescan, the missing albums show up. I have also noticed that if I change tag info (e.g. year, artist name) that a scan/cleanup (or rescan) does not pick up the changes. If I delete subsonic.data and scan, the missing albums and changes show up.

My structure is Music/Artist/Album/Tracks (100000+ tracks)

same here. i add folders/ files and it is a no-show in home - recently added after scan. the files are there! if i go to the folders i can play them, no prob! they even show up while updating the db. just once the update is finished it shows 'erratic, partials' of the newly added stuff.
not sure thats the same you experience, but thats my problem.
same structure here music/ artist/album/track (about 670.000 tracks). but it seems not to be a 'out of memory' issue. after re-scanning i get sometimes partially the same newly added material, sometimes a lot of 'new' ones, but albums from before are vanished.... as i said above, all of it is actually there, you can go to the folders blah, blah and play it. just does not show as newly added.
kind of s*x majorly (less for me, more for the handful of ppl i share it with), i get always this 'you're sure you added it, can't see it on yesterdays [replace y-day, with whatever day you uploaded and run a db-update] added stuff.
the other thing, which really annoys me even more is the still missing 'proper' genre search!

i may should add (even while i not believe thats any part of the issue), that i use subsonic this days as a unraid-addon on a 'nas'-server. i had the same probs before as a install on my pc.

sorry, i cant offer any solutions... rather looking for one. just thought i add my experience to the list. maybe, if it become more than 4 or 5 ppl on different setups it becomes easier to nail down the prob (and solve it!).

This still continues to be a problem for me. Last night I added 22 albums to the collection and Subsonic only finds 12 of them. Numerous scans don't help. The only way I have been able to fix this is by doing this (found in another thread)

1. Go to Settings/Media Folders - uncheck all folders and save
2. Scan Media Folders
3. Clean-up Database
4. Recheck all folders and save
5. Scan Library - wait a really long time while the database is rebuilt

This really is a PIA. Has anyone got a real solution to this problem?

Hi all,

I have a rather large library and all I can seem to see of anything I've added is on the left in the form of a huge list of every song. It's odd, I looked a bit and this thread seemed to describe the problem quite well. Has anyone been able to figure it out?

A huge plus one here.

I used to be able to drop some new music in there, rescan, and it show up immediately under "New".

Now, even after multiple scans, it does not show up. However it does seem to show up after my scheduled 3AM scan (or at least I assume this is when it shows up). I wake up the next day and go into Subsonic and the music magically has appeared.

However, it still does not show up through iSub, etc.

Returning user after a number of years :D

Just thought I'd throw in my results on this as well - I also was having some problems with some of my music scanning in. I was able to fix the problem as above by removing my subsonic.data file and having it rescan. My issue was a tiny bit different though since my folders seemed to be showing up fine, but for some reason in some cases the music within those folders weren't... strange but just glad I was able to resolve it without too much issue. This is just getting my stuff set back up (again) for the first time, so I couldn't say if my daily scan would have caught it or not.

Thanks!

Same issue here. No idea why some new folders and files show up, and some don't.

I solved this issue for me personally.

I am a networking guy by trade with limited knowledge in operating systems so forgive my ignorance

I'm running Mac Yosemite but the problem has existed for a number of years. I'm sure it could be the same issue you Windows fanboys are having too.

After receiving some information on how subsonic scans I was able to put in a workaround.

From Subsonic: "Subsonic uses the "last-modified" timestamp of directories for determining if directories need to be rescanned"

My file structure is such:

Volumes/MEDIA/Music/Rock, Rap, Audiobook, etc......

"MEDIA" is a removable USB drive. Not sure if that is a factor on timestamp updating or not.

Originally in the subsonic GUI in settings/media folders I added each genre in separately.

eg, /Volumes/MEDIA/Music/Audio Book, /Volumes/MEDIA/Music/Rap, /Volumes/MEDIA/Music/Rock, etc.

In MacOS if I add a new folder to /Volumes/MEDIA/Music/Rock for lets say Godsmack, it does not update the "last changed" timestamp for /Volumes/MEDIA/Music/Rock which subsonic keys in on to scan and update. So there's the problem right there. How do I update the timestamp on /Volumes/MEDIA/Music/Rock?

I reached out to one of my UNIX buddies for an answer and he schooled me on the 'touch' UNIX command. The touch command will update a file or a folders timestamp. So you would open a command line. and type in (ignore quotes) : "touch /Volumes/MEDIA/Music/Rock" to update the timestamp.

I'm using a scheduled automator job to do this for me every night. The job also includes a scan and a database clean as well as touching all the directories I have listed in setting/media folders. If I add music in it will update overnight and be there the next day. But I usually can't wait that long so I just find the job in Finder and run it adhoc when I tag new music and move it into the directory.

Hope this helps someone. I know how time consuming the current fix is. uncheck, save, scan, save, clean db, check, save, scan...... F that, it takes too long

Hello,

I'm new in this forum. I'm runnning subsonic on a Raspberry, no major issues, except the one described here, which I encounter each time I import massively several new folders. I think there is an issue in Subsonic when the folder is created before (i.e long time before) the music files: if by any chance a DB update is performed in between, the files never appear.
In my case, I generate mp3 files from existing flac files, and for that purpose, i.e the way my script works, I first create all the directories, and then launch the mp3 file generation which can takes hours, when not days, on the RPI.

I read the clue about "touching" the directories afterwards, which looks OK.

I would prefer to be able to run DB update at the end of my script, which would solve the issue, I think.

My question is about Subsonic API: is there anyway to "clean" and "update" database through a bash script? I had a look at Subsonic API but nothing related to this. And if not through the API, which way then?

Thanks in advance.

Several years of people complaining of the same problem and yet no real solution or any sort of help through the Subsonic team. This is turning into a lost cause. I LOVE Subsonic but it's extremely frustrating when I have to clean my entire database several times and re-scan my library (which can take up to or more than an hour) just so I can have ONE new folder freaking pop up.

What's with the deal????
