Problem Description: On click to access folder contents, the error "Starring not supported. Server too old. Please upgrade" appears and blocks playback.
Troubleshooting Steps:
Playback Application and version: Subsonic Music Streamer for Android
Subsonic Version: app version 4.0
Server Version: 4.6 (build 2583) – December 6, 2011
Hardware Platform: w7 64-bit
Java Memory Limit: 162MB
Problem Filename: N/A
Output from ffmpeg -i: N/A
Last ten log file lines: N/A

I love and rely on Subsonic and have done so for years now. As of yesterday, this error appears only on my Nexus 7 running Android 4.3 tablet, not on my Samsung SGH-T989 phone. "Starring not supported. Server too old. Please upgrade."

I am not interested in "starring" or any of the other new features, in fact they seem like negative developments. What's more, I'm not interested in forever upgrading software that isn't broken, I don't have time to continually install new servers and then re-tweak the UI for my simple home stereo purposes. I just want to keep the functionality I've always enjoyed. My request is this, unless Sindre can remove this error check related to "starring" and allow me simple access to a legacy server... where can I find the previous version of the android app?

Fallback question, if I pay for the dsub app, will it have these same problems or can I expect legacy support?

Thank you!

Hi, DSub dev here. As far I know everything works fine on older servers, just the new functionality from newer servers won't work. I've never heard of that problem before, and I have enough users that are sticking with 4.6 that I think I would have heard about it if it did. Either way, if you aren't happy with your purchase of DSub, I will always provide a refund. So don't worry about buyer's remorse if you just want to try it out and see if it works the way you want it to ;)

I have been having the same issue since the subsonic Android app updated. Cannot browse artists or albums without the message showing. The ultrasonic ago still works, but I like the official Android app much better.

Any way of simply disabling the starring functionality in the app? I'd like to listen to my music... :|

Problem Description: I am experiencing the exact same problem, "Starring not supported. Server too old"
Troubleshooting Steps:None yet
Playback Application and version: Official Subsonic Android App v.4.0 on Nexus 7 and Samsung SM-N900V both running Android 4.3
Subsonic Version: 4.4 (build 2169) – February 6, 2011
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_07, FreeBSD (50.7 MB / 99.2 MB)
Hardware Platform: i386-full on Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz (FreeNAS .0.7.2)

Chiming in to add my experience.
As you can see I am not totally inclined to update once I have things running as I like.
Is there any alternative to upgrading the server?
App works as expected in offline mode.

Thanks for chiming in, and thanks for the info on dsub, much appreciated.

And I just found an answer to my first question...
"Where can I find the previous version of the android app?"

Downloaded the 4.1 version of the Android app released today and all seems to be working as expected.
Can't say enough how superb this project is.
Thanks.
