Subsonic and Server Sleeping

Postby Shadaki85 » Wed Nov 13, 2013 11:53 pm

Hello, i've set up a Subsonic Server on my machine. The problem is that my machine is set to sleep in 3 min and i can't find an option in Subsonic to prevent sleeping when i'm streaming music or video. do you know how to solve this problem? Is there a way to reset the sleep timer when streaming? i can't figure it out and having to WoL it every 3 mins is a bit... frustrating :)

P.S.: I know about power options, but i NEED to set my machine to sleep in some mins if not used.

Thanks in advance

Subsonic requires constant drive access to remain available. A cloud service would be more appropriate to your needs.

accessing one time a day (maybe less) 13,4GB of files? :)
i'd prefer setting Subsonic up correctly...

anyway...i know that it has to access the disk... i'm asking if there is a way to prevent the machine's idle state with subsonic or some kind of application..

Look into solid state drives?

The issue here I believe is use case. Subsonic is a music server. By design servers are usually on all the time. If you need your machine to sleep then running a server on it is probably not the best idea.

Why does your machine need to sleep? Have you looked at alternative options? Another PC? A Raspberry PI and a USB Harddrive?

I need to put it into sleep mode because it is too much power-consuming... Using subsonic a couple times a week makes it unconvenient...
Anyway, i'm writing a small program in C# to prevent standby when a certain port is used (4040 in this case).
So when subsonic is streaming content, standby timer is stopped.

If someone is interested i'm gonna post it somewhere when done..
