Roku Streaming

I've had issues streaming to two different roku's, remotely off site.

I've been able to stream to DSub (but only in RAW mode). Everything else (except Jukebox) seems to work fine - the server is a ubuntu v13.10 box
jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_27, Linux (73.7 MB / 98.8 MB)
4.8 (build 3434) – April 17, 2013

and the rokus are.... roku 2 I think? I've been trying both the subsonic brand app and the other one. Both of them work fine (though I have to type in an IP address, it won't work with my name) except when I play videos, the screen goes blank for a bit, then returns to the selection screen.

I really can't buy the "channel" until it works, but if I could get it functioning, I'd be happy.

I'd also like to (and assume it's related) get streaming working in compressed streaming modes to my android phone - I assume I need a different transcode line, I'd done this in the past and it worked, but on a recent reinstall I lost what I was doing and can not for the life of me find the post here on the forums, I've looked on several occasions!

I'm not sure what additional information I can provide which will help here, I'm reasonably capable such that if you tell me what you need and point me to a tool to get it, I can handle it. If I had something else to go after, I would, but right about now I'm stumped.

I tried every external player mode, setting admin permissions for remote access account, turning on and off various transcoding routines, etc. I've really beat it up, checked that I had access from the same remote connection as the roku....

I think the key is none of the players work except in RAW mode - but any advice is appreciated. I checked and I DO have ffmpeg installed on the server.

I am running Subsonic on a headless ubuntu server install and I haven't had any issues using the default transcoding line.

I am, however, using the SubsonicTV Beta version. If you search for Subsonic TV in google, you should see the google group site for it. Might get better help asking there. I would give you the link here, but I can't get there from my work. They block that site.

I use my site name, not ip at home and outside of my lan, so I know that it works fine.
