Max bitrate per player

Hi again :)

Not sure if this is a problem or a feature request, but I need help with this so I posted this in the Help section.

I have a cople of friends registered as users of my subsonic. I also want to limit their use of my bandwith when streaming. Since they log on to subsonic from different locations all the time this generates a hole lot of 'players'. And since I can only set the 'Max bitrate' per player and not per user I end up giving them all my bandwith when they log on from a new location (different IP adress).

Is there any solution for this that I have missed? If not, I would appreciate some kind of solution for this in a later verison of Subsonic :)

Hi,

There is currently no way to limit streaming bandwidth except from on a per-player basis.

I hope to address this in a future release, though. I'm not sure what an ideal solution would be - maybe it would be cool if the bitrate is automatically adapted so that the total bandwidth never exceeds a given threshold?

Maybe a solution where you in the User Management also can chose "Max bitrate"? This in addition to the "Max bitrate" for the players.

Then you still have all the possibilities as of today, and you are able to override any other settings to the specific users you want...

This way I can still use transcoding and a max bitrate applied when I'm at work streaming (the "at work player" has these settings), when at home I can stream lossless with no max bitrate, and of course my friends mentioned earlier will always have a max bitrate without regard to their current location.
