Does anyone know of a way to specify two path's for the same virtual folder within Subsonic.

Here's my situation:
I have two hard drives. One is not being used and is completely empty. Recently the first hard drive filled to capacity with media. I can now begin using the second hard drive, but it would be nice not to have to have a "Media 1" and "Media 2" and rather simply expand the initial "Media" folder with the second hard drive.

I realize I could mount the other drive to a folder via the actual OS, but I'd rather not.

Any ideas?

Seems like you should try to set up your harddrives in Raid 0, then your disks would be seen as one

Yeah, I don't want to do that. I would have to re-init the partition AND if one drive failed I'd lost everything on both. Eventually, I will move everything to a RAID 5 or something, but I'm looking for a quick solution in the mean time.

You don't mention if you're running XP. If you are, you want to look at symbolic links. This creates a redirected folder that is indistinguishable to XP.

some caution is needed when removing a symbolic link as you have to unlink rather than remove it. It is NOT a shortcut.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't work in a desirable way. I could mount another drive's space into a directory under my music folder, but then everything I put in that directory would show up first under the root directory's name within the subsonic listings.

Then raid zero is your only choice.

Depending on the size of your directory I'd be extremely cautious about going for raid0. It means that if you have a drive failure on one of your drives, you'll (most likely) gonna lose all your data on the raid array.

Raid 5 is a better solution, but requires you to get one more additional disk.

A possibly simpler solution is to move Artists over to one disk with sufficient disk space available so that it doesn't span over 2 drives. It requires some work but generate no additional cost nor risk of losing data. Doing so also frees up space on the full drive.

I do not understand why you do not want to have two separate folders for you music and then specify both in Subsonic. Is it because you have other folders also that do not have similar contents? Say you have these folders:

- Music
- EBooks
- Videos

And to only list music you chose the Music folder. And if you now add a new folder for more music, you would have to flip between Music1 and Music2 folders to find what you are looking for. Is that the reason?

If so, then your only option would be to get a big enough drive, or a RAID5 system. AFAIK.
