Help setting up HTTPS / SSL

Postby Eshezo » Fri Jan 17, 2014 9:35 am

Hi all, I've only just started using Subsonic and love it but I want it working on https, rather than http.

1st everything is working 100% on the standard unencrypted http

What I've been doing is turning on the option for https, stop and restart the service, then try and login externally with https://xx.xx.xx.xx:portnumber but no joy

I think it's probably the router setup, so initially it was port forwarded to 4040 for the http access.

My question is with https turned on do I port forward 4443 (https port) and turn off the port forwarding for 4040 or just leave it port forwarded to 4040.

Really appreciate any help, just a little confused on this.

OK, I've managed to set up the access via https now, realised for some reason my port was 4443 !!! should have been just 443.

All working just of course with a nice red bar in the browser due to the self signed certificate.

I can't be bothered today but will create a new certificate for my server in thenext few days to get rid fo the warnings when you go to the url.

New to setting up servers and am trying to learn more about ssl and certificates and such. Would really like to get https working properly.

So far I followed these instructions http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5295 and have been able to create and import a certificate successfully as described. However, outside of getting the error for the certificate being self-signed (which I would also like to fix) I'm also getting the message "server's certificate does not match the URL".

I have version 4.8 installed on a machine running windows 8 and am currently using the included 30 day trial for the premium.

Any help or information to further my knowledge on this stuff would be greatly appreciated.
