Hi

I have searched high and low for an answer to the following problem but still can sort it.

I have been using subsonic for sometime now and until a few months ago I could connect remotely. Then all of a sudden I couldn't connect.

It used to connect to the port automatic but now I get the mess "failed to create port forward. see log for details"

I have tried to set up manual but get the message "port forwarding disabled"

I have checked to port 4040 and it is open.

Please help as I love subsonic but will have to look else where if I cant sort the problem.

You will want to disable automatic port forwarding within Subsonic, and MANUALLY forward the port. Use the specific instructions in your router's manual to open port 4040 for TCP. Test against canyouseeme.org for port 4040.

I've tried that and canyouseeme.org can see port 4040 but subsonic comes back with the message "port forwarding disabled"

Port forwarding is unrelated to Subsonic. Your router's manual should give you specific instructions for forwarding your port 4040. Only when canyouseeme.org can see port 4040 open, then Subsonic and the vanity url will function.

Seem to suddenly be having a very similar (if not exactly the same) issue, so thought I'd reuse this thread rather than start a new one.

Basically, all was well until I guess a week or so ago, then suddenly subsonic stopped connecting remotely (i.e. via phone/tablet apps). Anyway, have just checked the subsonic and router settings, and subsonic is set up to auto configure, but says port forwarded AOK. Only both the friendly URL and canyouseeme.org both fail to connect (ConnectTimeoutException).

Am sure I've had this issue occasionally in the past - and often when Java has been updated. Any chance this has affected it again - and either way, how can I fix it..?

I have been having exactly the same problem for the last few weeks. Until then remote access worked fine. Now canyouseeme.org times out on port 4040, and other tests have told me that port 4040 is being used by another application, but I don't know how to find out which one.

The only changes that I can think of are 1) there appears to have been an update to subsonic in January 2014 - could that have had this effect? 2) I installed vmware player in my host computer in order to have windows xp running in a virtual drive. This installs automatically when starting the computer, but even after disabling automatic startup I still cannot connect to subsonic remotely.

I have read several posts in the forum on this very topic (Status: micksmusic.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException) ) but I have little knowledge of networking and I find all the various suggestions very confusing. Can someone set out an idiot's guide to solving this problem?

You say that port forwarding is set up? Can you go to start menu -> type in search box 'cmd' -> enter. Type ipconfig in the box that opens up. Look at the top for the line that looks like:

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.5

Does that number at the end match the IP that is setup to forward that ports to?

Will double check, but pretty sure it does. Any chance my net provider changed the underlying (real) ip address?

Yes...some IP has changed..either local or WAN(ISP). This is why it is recommended to do your own port forwarding manually, and the vanity url will correct itself (usually within a day or two) after a WAN IP change.

OK, thanks. Here's the latest:

- double checked the local IP and it did seem to be different to what was in my router settings (and I could have sworn it was showing earlier today). Anyway, have updated router accordingly
- subsonic previously seemed to be set up on 3180 in the systray app (although this port previously forwarded in the router had been disabled), so guess was working before via auto configure option..
- Network settings in Subsonic intermittently seem to show port forwarded ok + domain registered but can't connect
- I previously tried turning off auto configure in subsonic, but again nothing stuck (once minute ok, next not.. but mostly not)
- If I now put the domain into my browser (on the same network) it does resolve to the correct IP and so allows me to run subsonic locally (as does localhost address of course)
- despite the above, my phone app simply shows 'not found' when I test the connection or try to gain access

Questions:
- portforward website says you should set up subsonic ports on both 80 and 4040; also shows them set as "both" (I previously had them as TCP only). Are these instructions all correct?

Aside from the general frustration, most of all it's the fact that this seems to happen again and again, and often for very little obvious reason. As the other person now in this thread just said, could it be anything to do with a subsonic update - does anything revert to default setting that needs to be tweaked back etc..?

Otherwise, just wish there was an easier way to make sure the thing connected (often recommend this to others, but have to admit not sure how they'd cope when this keeps happening, for whatever reason).

I'm still having the same problem too. I could access from my android mobile until three or four weeks ago, but now I can't. One suggestion seems to be to reinstall java, which I think I will try, but otherwise I am stuck. I have tried various port checkers and they either report ports in general timed out or closed, so maybe it is a more general problem than just subsonic.

Maybe we need to start it again in a new thread as replies seem to have dried up here.

Glad to know I'm not alone [WHITE SMILING FACE] And I actually cleaned out and reinstalled Java/flash the other week (trying to stop YouTube crashing my pc!!), so let me know how you get on! [WINKING FACE]

I have re-installed java, reinstalled subsonic over the existing version (both as suggested in the tutorial page) and still no joy. Somebody help please!

I have now made some progress. I turned off my firewall and got a connection. However, on my phone I can only access through 3G, not on my own wireless network, which used to work before.

As far as I can see subsonic is allowed through my firewall so I don't know why it was blocking it, so I've still some more research to do.
