Issues with Kit Kat on Galaxy Note 3 after last update.

OK, this is the issue. When Kit Kat came out you released an update that took away the ability to set your cache destination, which worked fine, but only wrote to the internal memory of the phone. Then you released an update to add that feature back for those who might not have updated to KitKat. Well, on my device that option is greyed out and inaccessible, and it is still set to write to my external SD, as it was before the KitKat update, but of course nothing can be written to the external SD. Please help, I am stuck, I cannot cache, which defeats the whole purpose...

I too have recently tried to migrate from a JB based S2 to a KitKat based Note 3 and found that it currently wont work for me.

Heres some additional data which I hope assists with the debug

the build state of the note 3 is:

android 4.4.2

kernel 3.4.0-1168347
dpi@SWDD5623 #1
Mon April 14 17:32:48 KST 2014

Build # KOT49H.N9005XXUEND3

I am running subsonic apk 4.3.1 from the play store

I uninstalled the legacy version of subsonic before upgrading to 4.3.1

The cache size configures correctly

The cache location is greyed out, with no way to select this manually .

upon tapping on the cache location field, the background of the input cell darkens for the duration of the screen touch.

upon release of the cache location field, the background reverts to normal and the "drip" notification sound is played

the field content remains constant

I will try version regression to see if this changes things in any way - may take me a while though.

Tapping and holding the field produces the same effect -

the target cache location set by the app on install is:

/storage/extSdCard/Android/data/net.sourceforge.subsonic.androidapp/files/subsonic

I have to observe that other apps such as Mort audiobook Player recognises my audiobook cache location as /storage/extSdCard/audiobooks
and loads them perfectly

Given this, I dont understand why in the new version of android subsonic cannot do the same ? grateful for anyone to shed some light on the underlying issue ?

regressing back through the versions (the least I can do to help!!) :D :D ....

[VERSION 4.3]

I confirm the same effect . subsequent upgrading from play store to 4.3.1 produces no difference
cache is greyed out & stays out

[VERSION 4.2]

Not tested - the 4.2 folder reports no files on the sourceforge server

[VERSION 4.1]

In 4.1 the field is modifiable and defaults to /storage/emulated/0/music

I can change the cache location to /storage/extSdCard/Music and my legacy cache content is visible / playable

when I try and download a file from the server to the cache it simply sticks at ""downloading - 0B" in the player

sorry if I'm covering old ground, but I thought it better to do that on the specific build of device and give feedback in case there were visible differences

"Mort audiobook Player recognises my audiobook cache location as /storage/extSdCard/audiobooks"

But can it write to that folder? Subsonic not only requires to be able to read what's already there, but to download new songs as well, making that an invalid comparison.

a fair point well made daneren2005 !

It [mort] doesnt have to write to it , just read from it

forgot to add, my note 3 is not rooted - nor can it be presently for operational reasons [sadly]

final observation for tonight ...

when upgrading from 4.1 directly to 4.3.1, the reported cache location is persisted from the last value in 4.1 and cannot be edited

however the actual cache location is as per my first post on this matter:

storage/extSdCard/Android/data/net.sourceforge.subsonic.androidapp/files/subsonic/music

the OP above might like to note that for the moment I have simply relocated my legacy cache (storage/extSdCard/Music/) into the new folder to get things moving and it appears to have solved my immediate problem
