Was wondering if its possible to install subsonic onto an external drive. I have a PC at UNI and a laptop at home, and when im traveling between both i'd like to have my external to run the server wherever i go with it. Or atleast be able to keep the same configurations. Anyone know how I can do this?

Only Sindre can conclusively answer this question I think. The only way I see it working is you install Subsonic on to both the computers, edit the vmoptions file to place the subsonic server directory on your external drive (I recently posted on this here), and stop the Subsonic service whenever the external drive isn't connected.

Because of the windows services that run, I don't think it's easy to be that portable. Unless you use the standalone installer, which I haven't used on a windows machine (only when I was running LAMP). I don't have much experience with Tomcat and Windows, but if you can get a portable version of Tomcat it might work out really well.

Good luck.

I think the best option is to install the stand-alone version of Subsonic on the external disk.

It contains a unix startup script, subsonic.sh, which you have to convert to a Windows bat file (it should be very simple). In this bat file, make sure to set SUBSONIC_HOME to point to the external disk.

Hope this helps,
Sindre
