How to play MP4 on a wdtvlive

Postby mxdog » Mon Sep 01, 2014 5:07 pm

5.0.beta2 (build 4085) – August 27, 2014

I have a couple wdtv live boxes I use in the house that I can not get to play video with subsonic. All my video files are mp4 and wdtv will play them natively but it seems that subsonic is passing those files as music files (at least by the icon wdtv shows). music plays fine they are all mp3. I don't really know how DLNA works enough to fiddle with xml's at this point so what do I have to do to make *.mp4 to a wdtv player A: not transcode (if they are) or B: set up a custom player file to allow the server to stream these files and or inform the player that they are indeed video files. Just to clarify the wdtv's do see all the folders and files but when I click a file to play it switches to a music screen and says media not available.

As an aside on my phone and pads I kind of get the same thing video files being presented as audio but I can get those to play with 3rd party apps
also windows media player does not see the folders either from subsonic (no media) but wdtv will play video if I use windows media sharing (is off when I have subsonic on)

so It looks like to me the dlna server needs some work or the standard in general needs tightened up ( I have these kinds of problems anytime I try a new dlna server)

any help is appreciated
