Linux: Cannot change the user

Postby kakemonsteret » Sat Sep 13, 2014 11:15 am

I've just installed the trial, and I've tried changing the user subsonic runs under to a new user. I've changed the permissions and ownerships on the folders, and added this line to the /etc/default/subsonic file:

SUBSONIC_USER=subsonic

Still, after restarting the server, when I log in to the web GUI, it says that subsonic is running as the root user.

If I cannot get this simple thing to work, I cannot buy this software.

If that's the only way, then I'll uninstall subsonic right away. Can someone working for subsonic confirm this? I've not seen any support contact - therefore I'm using this forum.

In Ubuntu and Debian, it's MANDATORY to use the packages system for installation. Installing outside of this, and/or from source, like that link describes effectively ruins the package and software database in the system. It should NOT be done.

The idea that you shouldn't compile software outside of the packages system? Oh...I don't know...20+ years of experience as a systems engineer, working primarily with Unix and Linux might have had something to do with it.

Anyway - I see that there is aboslutely no support for this COMMERCIAL piece of software, so I'll be getting rid of it now and continue searching for another app where the deveopers are more professional.
