SOLVED Updating from older version

Postby wurrrlitzer » Mon Sep 22, 2014 9:38 am

Hello there!

I'm currently running Subsonic 4.9 on a Cubietruck with Debian (ARM) and Java 8 on it. I'd like to update to Subsonic 5.0 but I have yet to find information about the update process. For Windows boxes the installation instructions (http://www.subsonic.org/pages/installation.jsp) say that upgrading is pretty simple because config data won't be overwritten. Somehow I have the feeling that this might not be the case when trying to update on linux with a deb package.

Any hints about what preparations I should be making or, generally, how to best apply the update?

Thanks a lot in advance!

I'm an impatient person, I simply couldn't wait for an answer. So I simply tried:

downloaded the latest deb package, then
sudo dpkg -i subsonic5.0.deb

old version was simply replaced with the new version while keeping all settings.

Might be a good idea to add this info to your installation instructions as a hint for upgraders?

Thanks for your great work on Subsonic, sindre - much apprechiated

Another problem I encountered after upgrading: The web player did play mp3s but wasn't transcoding other formats.

Subsonic log had this:
[2014-09-23 08:19:16,139] DEBUG InputStreamReaderThread - (/var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg) /var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg: 1: /var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

Turns out that at /var/subsonic/transcode/ I had an old version of ffmpeg.
I deleted the old version of ffmpeg and did a
ln -s /usr/bin/ffmpeg /var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg

Problem solved. Since I did the very same thing after installing Subsonic 4.9 I expect that the outdated version of ffmpeg comes with the Subsonic deb package. Maybe this problem could be fixed some day.
