Accessing Computer in Network DLNA

Quick question: I have a trial edition (<1 month old) of Subsonic running. I want to use it as a DLNA server in the home, but access it from mobile devices outside of it. However, I am having issues using subsonic in the home. It is being run off of a dedicated home Ubuntu server. However, when i try to browse the server's music library from another computer (Win 7 laptop with media player), it can not "see" the music files on the server.
Is this due to DLNA issues with the trial edition? I was under the impression that DLNA compatibility was active during the trial period and became inactive if you continued to use the software after the trail period.
Also, on a completely separate note, can you use localhost:4040 to access the server from another computer in the same network?
Thanks!
