Sonos without Sonos controller - how?

Hi there,

I'm totally new to Subsonic so excuse me for asking Noob-questions.

On http://www.subsonic.org/pages/sonos.jsp is said "Doesn't require installation of the Sonos controller."

Does that mean that I can cast music from the web-app to my Sonos? How does that work? I tried to change the Sonos Player to "Web Player" in the settings, but it doesn't show up in the player drop-down-menu. And how would subsonic know on WHICH of my Sonos it should play?

Our config: 5.2.beta1 (build 4393) and 7 rooms with Sonoses attached, 5 User in Subsonic and as Subsonic-service in the Sonos-Controller.

Any help appreciated.

Hello, I am wishing to do the same thing? Please let me know if you manage to get it to play to sonos from the web app.
Tim.

Sorry, my description is a bit imprecise. My point was that you don't have to install the Sonos controller on the computer where you host your music files. You can for instance just use the iOS/Android Sonos app as a remote control.

It's unfortunately not possible to control Sonos from Subsonic. Sonos doesn't provide an API for doing that.

So it doesn't work :( . I hoped it would becaused Google Music can do and I can see the Sonos devices in our network and from the Windows Explorer context-menu I can use "Play to ..." to cast a song to a Sonos (very uncomfortable) ... but I think Google & Sonos do their own thing there and noone else may do so.

(Edit: I fear it has something to to with the word upnp-renderer ... I did never understand that and what is so special with this that media-player do not include this function   over my head ... on Android BubbleUPNP is - I think - capable of casting to Sonos, too. But I don't like the player. Always the problem. I like subsonic :D )
