To add to this. Tomcat is running under an Administrator account on the server. Additionally I have verified that the user has access to the directories and files.

Is there any additional logging that could be enabled to provide more information? Are there any troubleshooting steps that I could follow that might help uncover what the issue is. The automatic scanner worked fine in 5.0 and previous versions. I started having issues in 5.1 and thought that upgrading to 5.2 would fix them. After the upgrade I still had the same issue.

same thing happening to me since upgrading to 5.2.1. Reboot, rescan shows folders but no songs.

Have you tried running it as root? This sounds like either the directories aren't right, or the permissions aren't right.

I solved this by wiping out my subsonic folder and re-configuring my server using the exact same Subsonic preferences as before. The Subsonic install is running under the same Tomcat instance with the same user credentials. Nothing has changed except for the subsonic database. I did notice that after the install the size of the database was substantially reduced in size - 330 MB -> 65 MB.
