Playback of .mp4

Postby Mfreak » Wed Feb 04, 2009 12:26 pm

New Subsonic 3.6 works great, but how or where can i set playback of .mp4 videos in jwplayer ? I can watch my musicvids only with mplayer, vlc or mpc - via externalplayer (works fine). I can hear audio in jwplayer , but when i set jwplayer in fullscreenmode - get i only blackscreen.

From what I understand JWPlayer only playes flash video - so, unless you are actively transcoding your mp4 vids to .flv, it won't be able to handle them. I believe a ffmpeg binary can do that though, I might look into that some time.

The JW FLV Player is the Internet’s most popular and flexible media player. It supports playback of any format the Adobe Flash Player can handle (FLV, MP4, MP3, AAC, JPG, PNG and GIF). It also supports RTMP, HTTP, live streaming, various playlists formats, a wide range of settings and an extensive javascript API.
I think, that transcoding is not interesting for 20 users online (cpu is limited), but only for broadcasting some privat TV or so. The Quality of x264/aac (VBR) is acceptable on 260-320 kb/s ( you can watch video in fullscreen < 1 m from monitor) and i have 100 mb/s connection on webserver - flatrate.
Is is possible to clone jwplayer and set this clone like videoplayer with videoplayback ? Or maybe is it not implemented in parser ?

Yeah, you're right. I guess that's a relatively new flash addition, playing h264. Funny, they don't seem to support any other non-flash video codec. The h264 mp4s I have have ac3 (5.1) audio and none of them work. My bandwidth acts like it's loading it, and maybe it's trying to load the whole thing, but nothing displays.

Good luck though.
