Win8 - network media folders - Folder Not Found

Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_55, Windows 8 (45.9 MB / 78.6 MB)
I have my library on a NAS drive which I use with Sonos. I also have a mirror on a different NAS drive. Both are mapped to local network drives
Subsonic reports it cannot find either. No trouble specifying a local music folder, and playing that, streaming to Sonos etc.
I have setup the Subsonic service to use my logged-on user account. I've restarted the service many times, logged in and out of Windows, rebooted.
I've tried using the short-form name of my account, and the email-version name (the latter is mapped to the first).
No luck.
[I looked for tips on this forum, but the keywords are either unacceptably broad and can't be used, or generate 40+ pp of responses]
