Jukebox mode (on latest vortexbox)

Using vortexbox as a media ripper / local playback on hifi via a dac on the subsonic machine.
Jukebox mode is producing no sound (though I get local playback using the squeezebox server software (but much prefer subsonic).
I assume subsonic is picking up the unused spdif as the audio device rather than the async usb>spdif converter. Was just wondering how I can check what device subsonic is trying to use and how to change it.
Iirc the vortexbox build is on fedora linux.
