Need advice on changing network connection

Postby terryowen » Tue Jun 23, 2015 1:40 am

I recently installed Subsonic on an Windows 7 Thinkpad T420. I appreciated the easy setup and I am able to access my files from outside my home network, add users, etc. But it is slow. A video can take up to a minute to start playing. (Encoded for iPhone mp4, if that matters) And I recently downloaded a video file from my Subsonic to another computer (my work, which is on a corporate, insanely fast fiber optic connection) and the file averaged about 400 kbps. My Internet connection is supposed to be 50 mb down and 5 up. I have a relatively decent router (Asus RT-N56U) and a 6 months old Docsis 3.0 cable modem. So I'm guessing that my laptop wireless is probably the weakest link? Or I guess it could be my wireless network in general, as there are always several people online during the day.

I can hook the laptop directly up to the router via ethernet, which I'm assuming will help? But with the Subsonic working, is there something special I need to do to make it use that connection once I set it up? Will it automatically use the wired connection if it's there?

I prefer slow to broken, so any advice on changing the network access would be appreciated. (I did search but evidently couldn't find a way to narrow it down enough to be useful.)
