brand new install

Postby djrat » Sun Oct 01, 2006 11:08 pm

I have a server running FC5

I have followed the install directions on the download page.
I have re-installed twice...

Also, FC5 puts the tomcat folder in

var/lib/tomcat5
thus: var/lib/tomcat5/webapps/subsonic is created when I logon to localhost on port 8080.

A link is created on the system in...

/usr/share/tomcat5 with the same folders and files.

Since the link is setup and the folders are created, I assume tomcat is working. Also if I go to http:// localhost : 8080/subsonic/
I get the message from Tomcat that "the requested resource (/subsonic)
is not available.

If I try any other address combination I get error 404.....

FC5 is up to date, I run PHP and MYSQL on the system with a local server for developement and learning. I am not an EXPERT but I'm not a noob.

Another thing, there is no Subsonic or tomcat error log file. FC5 saves the file to

var/log/tomcat5/catalina.out

which gives me 5 pages of information I have no use for.

By looking at the index.html file, I see that the file is pointing to
Index.view......
Well Firefox locks on that, as does IE.....I cant find the file anywhere...

What am I missing?

I want to set up your software for a site I am designing.

Keep in mind I know Enough about Linux to be dangerous....but I dont mind experimenting with Ideas.

thanx for any replies.

Don't know if this helps, but I am running Subsonic 2.9 beta on FC6.

First of all, does http:// localhost : 8080/ give you the Tomcat welcome page? If not, start looking at your Tomcat setup.

I am absolutely not an expert on Linux nor Tomcat, but will give you a brief description on my working configuration below.

I have downloaded Tomcat 6 from the Apache DL pages, after FC6 install. I didn't install the package that came with the FC distribution. Tomcat was then installed to the folder of my choice. Remember to set the correct JAVA_HOME before starting Tomcat (It requires 1.5, Java version shipped with FC6 is 1.4.something), I am setting the exporting the variable in startup.sh

catalina.out is on my system placed in <installfolder>/logs, and subsonic.log in /var/subsonic/ - remember to create this folder before running Subsonic for the first time and change owner or group to your Tomcat user, if not running Tomcat as root.

Good luck!

Inge.

I had almost forgotten about Subsonic.
I gave up after no replies for a week or so.
I will give your ideas a try.

Thanx.
