Cannot access Subsonic outside my local wifi network

I just got Subsonic the other day and have only been able to stream locally. Other wifi networks do not work, which I am mentioning because sometimes people can get it to work on all wifi networks, just not cellular.

So far I have gone to settings --> network in the browser client, then clicked the auto configure box (its checked now) and also accessed the server over internet. That one is now saying it can't connect to my network, but I can still access it on my phone right now via wifi. It was checking out until the latest round of me messing with things, but I couldn't access it via a cellular network then either.

I also set up the admin account. Again - it works perfect, but only on my local network.

I then followed the directions here to make my network static: http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... bsonic.htm

That includes the last part where you activate ports 80 and 4040. I literally named them Name1 and Name2, but I assume that's irrelevant.

Anyways, there has been no change at all. In the beginning actually, it wouldn't stream anything, but I've been stuck local for a few days now. If anybody could help me with this, I'd be really thankful! I have an awesome music collection and I've been dying to get this app for months and just took the plunge.

Howdy SnakeLee-
You need to only open 4040 on your router, pointing to your FIXED IP address of your server. REBOOT router, then test port with canyouseeme.org website. If you can pass that port test, you can stream outside your lan. Cheers!

Yes you need to forward your ports on your router.

Hello, thank you but I still cannot get it to work.

When I'm in the network part of the subsonic web app, it says "Successfully forwarding to port 4040" and has been this entire time.

However, to be sure I logged into my router and "enable port forwarding" had "No" selected, so I turned that on. Again, that is even though the app said it was forwarding.

I then even added my router to my port forwarding list and used the gateway address IP first, then tried using just the regular IP address and neither worked. I turned my router on and off via the power button each time and nothing is changing.

Is there some other way to do this? I am really at a loss, I've spent hours on this and I swear it must be something really simple. I am going to have to give up on this soon, something is really wrong.

Also update: I just noticed that my router is asking me to do a firmware update. However, when I go to download it, I get this message "The router cannot connect to ASUS server to check for the firmware update. After reconnecting to the Internet, go back to this page and click Check to check for the latest firmware updates." I am 100% connected to the internet and the ASUS server is up, maybe it's just my router?

/big sigh
You might need to do a factory reset on that router...it certainly is acting strange. Uncheck the auto forward setting, since it isn't working anyway, and manually open the port 4040 after you reset your router.

I guess I will have to try that. I tried unchecking that box and restarting and nothing.

I've also tried checking the port on ping.eu for 4040 and it's closed. Super annoying

So I factory reset my modem, which did nothing.

I kept Googling around and eventually found this thread: http://forums.pcwintech.com/index.php?topic=5071.0

Where a guy said that "Your ISP has you behind a 2nd network on their end, which blocks all port forwarding [SnakeLee's note: my IP address does not match]. Some ISPs do this because they dont have enough internet IPs to hand out to everyone. So the trick, is to buy a static internet Ip from them. When you do, the only way they can give you a static internet IP is to take you out of that 2nd network"

Could that really be the issue? I don't want to have to give Cox more money to get this to work. Would setting up a DMZ get around this?
