Manage remote player

subsonic newbie here!
What I want to do is to set up a 'headless' box & play music using the audio outputs from this box, while managing it remotely (EG Via web browser)... Now I thought I could do this using subsonic but I can't work out how to a; define the payer on the headless box and b; control the headless player - it keeps changing IP address!! Even if I define a new user & log in as that...

If not subsonic then any suggestions?? Linux / GPL ideally on a low end / run from flash system!

thanks!

David

FYI, Subsonic 3.7 will feature a new integrated "jukebox" player type which supports this. It can be remote controlled, and plays music directly on the server's audio device.

Not as such, but have a look at http://subsonic.sourceforge.net/changelog.php to get an idea of how frequent the releases are.

Sindre,

That is great news. I am very excited to hear that and looking forward to that function.

Will the jukebox player only exist on the server, or will any player have the ability to be remote controlled?

Either way I know I will be using it.

Thanks!!

The jukebox playback is done in-process by the server, and is inherently server-side only.

However, it is (and has always been) possible to remotely control players of type "external". As long as the external player (e.g., Winamp) is connected to the server, the playlist can be manipulated from any (authorized) client .

Cheers,
Sindre

Is there a repository somewhere where I can build a prerelease of 3.7? This jukebox mode is exactly what I was looking for in Subsonic.
