Is there anyway to show this by album names or artists names rather than just the folder that you have shared.?

Simple answer is yes, by renaming folders to artists names you would get the desired effect.

More extensively it probably would require developing support for using embedded tag-information in the entire library to build the left pane menu. Personally I like the left pane menu as it is. Whenever I add a new folder with a new artist the list is immediately updated as Subsonic reads the directory-three. Having lists from the mp3-tags would require having a index and rebuilding it frequently.

Try adding each "super-category" (mp3-001-049 etc) as a music folder.

I see you have a huge library. If the music is tagged correctly with Artist Album and Title name then I would suggest downloading Media Monkey as it has an auto arrange function. I use it because it can pull a huge library in and organize it in any manor you see fit. (plus does encoding, auto tag from web etc...). I used it when I started using Subsonic as I could tell it to arrange all my music in folders by Artist/Album/Track and it did it all for me.

There is a 30 day free trial version, just google media monkey.

Of course if your mp3 files do not have good tags it will take a lot of work to reorganize it.

ill do as sindre_mehus suggested, the reason that they are listed like that is because they are archived on cd/dvd that way, and if i need to refer back to the source it makes life much easier.

i thought i might be able to get away without having to add each sub folder.

tried that, no good, it either was like this

mp3-001
mp3-002
mp3-003
...
...
mp3-232
mp3-233
mp3-234

or if i went and put in each of those directories manually the up arrow (http://192.168.1.16/left.view?#top) did not shrink the view, so for example the category A would be several pages long before you got to B

plus any straggler files, ie songs with out an album would be listed below Z and that list would have ended up being quite huge.

this is using the HD-1080 theme.

thanks tho, ill make do with how it is.

that it would, but in my instance it would do what i would like to have done.

my folders are already quite neat

I have chopped this cut and paste here to only show the first song of the album, or it might have been way too long
