Runnung Subsonic on Ubuntu 16.04

Postby FoxBJK » Tue Apr 26, 2016 11:09 am

Ubuntu 16.04 recently came out, but it does not include support for OpenJDK-7. Has anyone gotten Subsonic to work using OpenJDK 8 or 9? If so, how? I can't Subsonic to start on this OS.

Same issue here, the subsonic service seems to be running but I can't access it through my browser. I tried installing openjdk-7 using this:
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openjdk-r/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre

but still nothing at all.

UPDATE - Subsonic is running on my machine, but the web interface still doesn't work. I didn't do anything to get it running, I just noticed the Android app I use (DSub) has been syncing new podcasts.

When searching for installed packages, specifically versions of openjdk, here's what I get:
Code: Select all
foxbjk@Zoidberg:~$ dpkg --get-selections | grep openjdk
openjdk-7-jre-headless:amd64                    deinstall
openjdk-8-jre:amd64                             install
openjdk-8-jre-headless:amd64                    install
openjdk-9-jre:amd64                             install
openjdk-9-jre-headless:amd64                    install

Exactly the same for me now, Dsub works and the web interface doesn't. Hoping for a fix soon :(

Got it running here. I just had to install openjdk-8 instead of 7, and then start it up.

Please give more details about your setup if you can. I have openjdk-8 installed already, but Subsonic still doesn't work. What's worse is that I can't even get it to restart. Command line, nor the logs, show a single error.

maybe ubuntu still think that you're default version is version 7 and not 8 !

first see wich version you have :
Code: Select all
sudo update-alternatives --display java

then try to change the default version :
Code: Select all
sudo update-alternatives --config java

With no logs, how do you find problems ?

Nice, thanks. This is what I did for my setup:

Code: Select all
sudo apt install openjdk-8-jdk
sudo update-alternatives --config java  # choose jdk-8 here
sudo service subsonic stop
sudo service subsonic start

And bam! The web interface was back up. Thanks everyone.

I was finally able to get it working also. Did some digging and found in subsonic_sh.log that the error was "java: not found". I had 9, and the system was trying to use that, but Subsonic's web UI still didn't work. Only fix was to remove all versions except for the 8-jdk, and now everything's running fine. 6.0 went live yesterday and I got it installed just a moment ago.

Thanks for the help all!
