After upgrade to 6.0 files stop playing in the middle

Postby zeus163 » Tue May 17, 2016 3:16 pm

*I think I may have fixed it. You'll notice that my port forwarding fails (even though I believe it to be set up correctly). I have the premium package, but can't connect through my premium address. I can successfully connect though through my no-ip account. I went into the admin screen and changed the network settings to point to my no-ip address and now everything seems to be playing like it should be.

I used the 6.0 "war" package to upgrade. Everything seemed to upgrade fine on Subsonic which runs on my windows server 2012 r2 essentials except for a "failed to find paramter: instanceID" on one of my machines. I cleared my browser data history like I saw mentioned in another post here. that seemed to solve the cosmetic issues, however, songs don't play all the way through on the different machines I've tried streaming from. When I revert back to 5.3, everything is fine. I've tried the upgrade a few times, update the ffmpg files, and still have the issues.

*I upgrade again so that I could get the missing information needed.

Problem Description: After my upgrade, using the WAR package, songs don't play all the way through on the different machines I've tried streaming from. When I revert back to 5.3, everything is fine.
Troubleshooting Steps: I've tried the upgrade a few times, updated the ffmpeg files, and still have the issues.

Hi,

I have the same issue after upgrading to version 6 standalone...

MP3 files are ok but if I try to listen to FLAC or M4A files the music stop after a few seconds.

Playback Application and version: Firefox browser

Server Version: Serveur jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_101, Linux (78,4 MB / 136,0 MB)

Re: After upgrade to 6.0 files stop playing in the middle

The problem is not Subsonic but Firefox...

Subsonic works fine with Chromium, the songs that stop with Firefox are playing normally with Chromium

I have a laptop (Xubuntu 14.04 (64-bit)) with Firefox 46.0.1 and Chromium Version 50.0.2661.102

Sorry I should have tested this before posting

I use Chrome (Version 50.0.2661.102 m) at work and I have the issue still. I'm getting ready to post my log files, but they seem to look different then some of the examples that I've seen posted here. I once followed a guide using the Tomcat/WAR method, so maybe I'm missing something.

I experienced the same issue after upgrading to 6. My assumption is that Web player is working differently with the default FLAC -> mp3 transcoding.
Here is my workaround:
  • Install the dedicated "flac" transcoder (on my QNAP: "ipkg install flac")
  • copy the file to the subsonic/transcode directory (check execute permissions)
  • remove flac from the default transcoding
  • add the following transcoding path: [Name="flac mp3", Convert from="flac", Convert to="mp3", Step1="flac --silent --decode --stdout %s". Step2="lame --silent -h -b %b -"]

I have the same issue (also in Chrome) in Subsonic 6 (since reverted back to 5.3 until this is fixed). However, I also have the same problem in 5.3 when I use Jamstash, which also uses a HTML5 player instead of the Flash player, so I assume the bug is in the HTML5 player. I had the issue mostly with long songs (which I have a lot of) and I use MP3s only, no FLAC.

Context: SubFire uses the html5 audio tag.

ok, I've never seen this in Chrome. Any time the playback cut out on me, it was due to a poor network connection at my office (the firewall changes/resets my external IP address/name regularly for security reasons - it avoids reverse-lookup attacks).

In Firefox, however, I have found that if I'm routing through the *.subsonic.org address, with a fixed-rate file (CBR), then the duration keeps changing with every bit of the buffer that arrives. The server is supposed to send a header to the stream request that gives the "range" (and the html5 audio tag pulls the duration out from there), but in the case of the redirect, it is losing that information. VBR (Variable bit rate files, like what you buy from Amazon) don't have this problem, because the duration is set as a property of the file format. Firefox does not do this when there is no redirect, as in, if I'm pointing directly to my server.

So since a song "ends" when the current time is > than what the tag sees as the duration, I can easily see the case that happen if your network connection isn't the greatest.

FLAC conversion usually generates fixed-rate files (at least, they do by the default transcoder in the settings). It may be possible to resolve it by making the transcoder produce VBR files. It may take longer to start (the file couldn't be served until it was completely converted), but it could resolve the cut-off. No promises.

Re: After upgrade to 6.0 files stop playing in the middle

Hello,

I have the same trouble here, on a Rapsbian rapsberry 2. Upgrading to 6.0 makes files which are not native mp3 stop in the middle (flac, m4a) when using the web HTLM5 player. Native mp3 files work ok. Downgrading to 5.3 solves the problem (well, no HTML5 reader in 5.3 anyway, but the web player works OK). So I'm back in 5.3 for now.

I use Firefox as a client.

I have installed Subsonic 6.0 on another PC on Ubuntu 14.04 (fujitsu Esprimo desktop, i.e not a raspberry), and when using this server in 6.0, the problem does not appear, everything just works fine. So, there might be something incompatible between subsonic 6.0 and Raspbian? Or any HW issue with the RPI, but not in former versions like 5.3????

Should I try to give more memory to Java (150 currently). Would version 6.0 need much more memory that 5.3? Any clue?

I use ffmpeg for transcoding, with a link to installed up to date binary in/var/subsonic/transcode. And the settings for transcoding are strictly the same between 5.3 and 6.0. I don't see any errors in the logs.

Thanks

Denis
