I have been using Subsonic Premium for a while with an old PC as server. Now I want to replace the old PC for a Raspberry Pi. When I try to register my existing xxx.subsonic.org address on the new Raspberry Pi Server I get a message that the address is already taken (which actually makes some sense, while I took it). I thought that Subsonic.org will recognize me by my License Key, but apparently it does not make the connection. How can I make subsonic let me use my current web address on the new machine? Any help is much appreciated.

That should all be stored in the database and settings, By default on windows it is "C:\subsonic". did you copy that entire folder to the new server?

Haven't really thought about that... My c:\Subsonic Folder contains 2,500+ files stored in 11 directories. I imagine that would be some data regarding the music media. Do I really need to copy all of this? And where do I put it on the Pi? I guess there is already a Subsonic folder equivalent there (where?!). I wouldn't like to mess things up on the new server.

Sorry did not see you mentioned raspberry-pi in your original post. I'm not even sure if the linux version stores the registration info the same way on windows as it does linux.

If the new server still uses the same public IP address that is mapped to your original xxx.subsonic.com, it should still work as long as you setup port forward for 4040 to direct requests to the internal IP as the Raspberry PI. Keep in mind if your ISP does not provide you with a static IP this will become a short term solution.

Alternatively you could try registration a new DNS address with subsonic.org or use a free dynamic DNS service such as noip.com http://www.noip.com/support/knowledgebase/install-ip-duc-onto-raspberry-pi/ I do believe the sharing feature does not work properly if you use a third party DNS service.

I had some catching-up to do on internet networking basics... Eventually I set myself up with a static ip address, and then picked up a brand new subsonic.org private domain.
There was actually no point in sticking with the old one.
Things are smooth now.
Problem solved!!
