Multiple instances of ffmpeg when transcoding.

Upgraded to Subsonic 6. Since then, I starred a bunch of artists in my personal account and set up my app on my Android phone to download everything that's starred.
Since using version 6, Subsonic seems to randomly run MULTIPLE instances of ffmpeg when it transcodes my music above a certain bitrate.
At once stage I had about 20 instances of ffmpeg running on my server causing my server to run CPU at 100% (basically not responding.)
In the mean time I've reverted to Subsonic 5.3 until I have time to do more troubleshooting.
My question, is there any way to prevent subsonic from creating multiple instances of ffmpeg?
