symlink media file doesn't scan

Greetings:

I mount a NFS share to /mnt/nfs/jukebox on the debian box where subsonic resides
i then create a symlink from /mnt/nfs/jukebox to /home/subsonic/music
All the music folders/files are visible in both the /home/subsonic/music and of course the mount point
If I ask subsonic to scan /home/subsonic/music - it only finds two files (. and .. presumably)
If I however ask it to scan the mount point, no problem.

Why is the symlink being ignored?
