[SOLVED - sort of] Empty playlists (for real? no one else?!)

Postby timlance » Sat Sep 17, 2016 2:36 am

Not so much a solution ...
I gave up waiting for 6.1 so updated and under v6 I can not replicate the problem. One of the good things about being old is not getting caught up in why's and therefor's. Best is to just be happy and move forward.
------------
I've found two other threads with different causes but same effect. I find it hard to believe that this situation has been encountered so seldom.

My files are located on a networked volume. Stuff happens and there have been times where the data folder needs to be rescanned. In such cases, once rescanned and everything is otherwise happily humming along, the playlists are empty. In the sidebar they are listed and the number of files purportedly in each is shown. But when a playlist is selected the main panel of the GUI says Playlist is empty. Talk about a major PITA.

In the first thread below there is this line:
playlists are located in the database file on the server and can be extracted

I can't find it and not sure I'd know what to do anyways.

Subsonic 5.2.1
Mac OS X 10.11.6

Any help/insights will be greatly appreciated!

If you have a standard Subsonic-setup, without a lot of mods than you'll find on the top of the homepage from Subsonic a line saying:
Home, Index, Now playing, Starred, Playlists, Podcasts.
If you'll click "Playlists, all your playlists appear.
Choose one, click on it and a new page will open with the contents of that playlist.
You now have options available like Play, Edit, Remove and Export.
If you export the playlist, you are given the option of saving a m3u8-file to disk.
It should take less than a second to download. You can open the m3u8-file with notepad to view pathnames and songtitles.
It should look somewhat like this:
X:\Music\A\ATB\(2000) Two Worlds CD 1 The World Of Movement\ATB - Bring It Back.mp3
X:\Music\A\ATB\(2000) Two Worlds CD 1 The World Of Movement\ATB - The Summer.mp3
X:\Music\A\ATB\(2000) Two Worlds CD 2 The Relaxing World\ATB - Endless Silence.mp3
X:\Music\A\ATB\(2000) Two Worlds CD 2 The Relaxing World\ATB - Engrossing Moments.mp3
Now you can check if the pathnames are correct.
You also now have the option of removing the playlist from Subsonic and importing it again. ( This option you'll find at the bottom of the playlist page.)

Thanks, toolman. I appreciate your taking the time to write a thorough response. Unfortunately it was not the solution.

You wrote: Choose one, click on it and a new page will open with the contents of that playlist.

And therein is the issue; there are no contents. As I stated in my OP, the noted number of files is correct but there is also "Playlist is empty".

I tried the export anyway but the contents of that file is a mere "#EXTM3U".
