Sorry if this has been covered before.......
I'm just trying to set up Subsonic as a home jukebox player. (no internet)
I currently have 5 computers networked together (simple switcher) which share a dial-up connection on one computer. (modem in one computer shares with the other 4 via ethernet)
I have no idea how to set this up so that music playing from one computer can be heard on the others.
Could someone please explain how to set this up with the correct subnet/ip addresses/ports and firewall settings?
Win XP SP3.
Thank you so much.

subsonic will not do that, you will need some funky program to do that or even better just get some wireless speakers

so you're saying that i can't use subsonic to stream audio over my intranet and just block the port to the internet? I thought you could use the software to stream over an intranet.

Yes, you can use Subsonic to stream audio only in your house. I think what donpearson meant was that Subsonic is not designed for what you explicitly requested: "how to set this up so that music playing from one computer can be heard on the others".
Basically you don't play music on the server itself, but stream to each client which connect to Subsonic and start up a playlist. The exception to this is the Jukebox-feature, which allows you to control the playlist on the server. This only applies to the speakers directly attached to the server though ( maybe not what you're asking for.. ).
So if you simply would like all of your music to be stored at one server and accessible only from your local network it's a simple firewall rule ( e.g. only allow 192.168.0.0/16 to connect to Subsonic ).
Every client will have to control their own playlist though.
Does this cover your requirements at all?

sadly, no. I already have access to my music HD shared on the network. Infact, I use Traktor DJ Studio which allows sync over the network which is basically what i want, but the playlists have to be identical.
I'm sure this is a very useful software, just not what I'm looking for.
jukebox?

Jigsaw, has the jukebox feature been implemented already and I'm just missing it? Or are you talking about a feature in an upcoming release?

Hmm.. After looking over the forum again I realize there's not actually a jukebox-feature in subsonic. I know I read about it and I was sure it already was implemented, but it seems I was mistaken.. The closes I found was that Sindre was talking about looking into JLayer as a server-side, in-process Jukebox ( here's the forum link:

Sorry about that BrianDelShasta, but stay tuned and/or bump the thread.. You might get a hit
Edit: Knew I read something about it.. Looky here:

To-be released in Subsonic 3.7
