Multiple genres per artist

Postby edimusrex » Wed Oct 26, 2016 4:15 pm

I know this has been asked before but I did not get a clear answer. I am in the process of tagging my library using MP3Tag and I need to create multiple genres per artist. Doing some research I have discovered that the preferred way to do this in MP3Tag is to separate each genre with \\, but in doing so subsonic renders that as ? and thus it doesn't work. Which is the preferred tag separator for subsonic if any?

Thanks

i'm sorry to inform you that Subsonic doesn't support multiple genres.
That is:
You can name the genre as Blues \ Rock or Blues \\ Rock, but Subsonic will than show your song in the genre Blues \ Rock or Blues \\ Rock. It will not split up the genre to seperate Blues and Rock.
When you use the "sort by genre" filter you will see that all genres are listed exactly as you tagged them.
If you use Subsonic's tag-feature you'll see how limited Subsonic is on that part.
Might I warn you for editing tags with any third party program?
You'll end up with a database that in no way is accurate regarding the genre tags.
The only way to fix it is to delete your database and starting from scratch. ( In the proces losing all your comments, statistics etc. etc.)
