I there, my 2 year old subsonic installation stopped playing files recently.

It shows all files, all playlists and all other stuff.
If I try to play a file or if I click on the "Podcast"-Tab, I get errors like this:

My database file has 16GB (huge collection)

What I understand from the log file is, that these missing values ("?") might be the cause... Is my database corrupt?

It looks like your database indeed is corrupt.
You could try to fix it by
step 1. Delete all subscriptions to podcasts.
step 2. Disable all media folders.
step 4. Perform a folderscan.
step 5. When folderscan has finished do a database clean up.
stop 6. Enable all your media folders
step 7. Perform a folderscan.
step 8. When folderscan has finished do a database clean up again.
Your collection of 16 GB isn't really an issue, since Subsonic handles my collection of 1236.97 GB without any problem.
And there are Subsonic users with even bigger collections who don't have any database problem.

Surely the database only holds pointers to the existing files, not the music data itself, hence the size of the files has no relevance ? Only the number of track records it holds.

my Database, the file
/var/lib/subsonic/db/subsonic.data
has 16 GB

Anyway, I cannot remove Podcast subscriptions. If I click the tab "Podcasts", subsonic says

I have no chance to remove any podcast.

scanning, and cleaning database do not seem to have any affect
All information about any song is displayed correct in the webinterface. How can this be if database is corrupt?

If your database is 16 GB than how large is your music collection?
If have a collection of 1 TB and my database is exactly 256 MB and has never been bigger nor smaller.
If you can't remove the podcasts, you could try skipping that step.
How big is your database file in the folder db.backup?
Perhaps you could stop the subsonic service and copy that file over to your db-folder.
You could also stop subsonic, delete your database file (or move it to another location ) and start subsonic again.
Subsonic will rebuild a new database, but you'll loose all your settings and you have to configure Subsonic from scratch. (Mediafolders etc.)

My mp3-folder has about 300GB, lots of audiobooks and documentations, subsonic.data has 16GB, subsonic.backup has 1.6 GB

I stopped subsonic, copied subsonic.backup to subsonic.data and restartet subsonic

.... and my subsonic.data is again 16GB big.

Now I stopped subsonic, deleted subsonic.data und restartet subsonic,
and file subsonic.data ist created, and it immediatly increases up to 16GB again.

I deleted everything in /var/lib/subsonic/db/

after that subsonic startet as a "fresh istall"

I added my stuff and successfully imported all files

my subsonic.data-file is now 250MB

The webinterfaces plays my music again, and my android-clients are able to log in and play music as well again...

It is a pitty that all my favourites, playlists and stars are gone...

Yeah, It's a pity subsonic stores all that info in a database which gets corrupted so easily.
Let's hope Sindre abandons this buggy database and implements Mysql.
However the lesson here is backup, backup and backup.
Perhaps it might be an idea to add a backup feature to subsonic which can keep multiple backups.
