Trouble accessing music on a Synology DS1815+

I have a Synology DS1815+ RAID on my network. I would like my Subsonic (Windows 10 Home) to access that library so that I can stream my music to my car when I drive. I am trying to set it all up, and I am running into all sorts of issues.

I found this info on how to access the library on the server:

http://sageadviceltd.com/running-subson ... -on-a-nas/

I have a username and password set up on the Synology to access the Music library read/write.

I tried to set up the same user on my Windows 10 PC, per the link, so that the Windows machine could access the Synology library with the proper credentials.

Windows 10 will not even let me create a user with the correct name. Very frustrating.

Is there a specific process I can follow to get this set up properly?

Thanks

try this
Create a user Submusic with a password on your nas.
In Windows create a user Submusic with the same password
Next run "services.msc" and find the Subsonic service. Change the account under which it is running to the "Submusic" account. Stop and restart the service.
Log in to Subsonic and define your music folder like "\\NAS\MUSICFOLDER"
You'll notice immediatly if Subsonic has acces to that folder.

Of course the name of the user can be anything you like as long as you make sure it complies to the rules of both the OS of the Nas and Windows.

Well, I more or less did that. Then I pointed my Subsonic browser to the file path where my music folder is located (same file path I use in Windows to access it).

Subsonic started cataloging a TON of stuff (I have over 60,000 tracks). When it was done, the library was still empty. I have no idea why.

I have the Synology shared directory added to "My Computer" using the "Add Network Location" function.

I tried "Map Network Drive", but Windows hangs while scanning the network in the "Browse for Folder" window, the Synology never appears.

Did you give yourself privileges in Subsonic under Settings >> Users >> Allow access to these media folders ?
Can you map the drive by using the command prompt "Net use X \\nas\musicfolder" ? This will assign the driveletter X to musicfolder on the nas.
Also did you log in on Windows under the account you created for Subsonic to test if that account indeed has acces to the folder(s) on the nas?
What does Subsonic 's log file tell you?
What's the information on the "About Subsonic " page? Does it say something like :
2,511 artists
10,607 albums
147,946 songs
1236.87 GB
11,826 hours

I am having the same issue. Subsonic is running on a Synology Nas where my music files are also stored.
The indexing proces went well. What is really weird is that I was able to browse and access files during the initial indexing process. But when the first indexing process completed, I lost acc to the library.
In the "Home" screen I can see the details of my media collection. In the Genres droplist, I can see a relevant genre list with an accurate count of my artists, but cannot load anything.
The Subsonic user on the Synology has read/write access to the music folder.
Subsonic log does not say much:

Dis you make syre that you're allowed to use the folders in Subsonic?
Settings >> Users >> Allow access to these media folders.

Thanks for your answer Toolman.

My issue is now solved. I cannot confirm the status of the user access to the media folder at the time of my initial post.
Before reading your answer, I upgraded the Synology to DSM 6.1, uninstalled and reinstalled Subsonic (using https://github.com/ghenry22/Subsonic_Sy ... tag/v6.0.0). I guess a bad permission was fixed somewhere in the process.
