Hi
I'm trying to edit tags of some songs, but it isn't working. I want to change the album as the interpreter is listed there, but the tags of the *.mp3 don't have anything listed under album, only under interpret, title, and album interpret. When I go into edit mode I tried both using the "set"-button (by emtpying out the respective field) and emtpying the album entry of that specific song directly, and in both cases the "UPDATED" shows up, but the tags are not actually changed. Thus, the interpret is still listed under album. I of course hit the save-button as well.
I'm on FreeNAS (FreeBSD 10), Subsonic 6.1.beta1 (build a66b4e) – March 11, 2017
Kind Regards

Sounds like a file permissions issue.
What mask are you using on the location for your files?

Permissions are fine, everything is owned by the user that runs subsonic.

If there are issues with permissions you'd get "acces denied" and "Failed" remarks when updating the tags in Subsonic.
Did you check the log files for any errors?
Sometimes I have the same problem, because some of the header of the mp3-files is damaged. It doesn't affect the playback of the song, it's just annoying that you can't edit the tag properly.
In those cases I try to find a better copy of the song.
You might try performing a new folderscan after editing the tags to see if Subsonic does pick up any changes, or use a third party program like MP3TAG to edit the tags.

Well the thing is that the tags aren't set in the mp3 file. I always use MP3Tag to tag my files properly. In those specific instances, the "album" tag is emtpy as those are non-album singles. I always fill title, interpret and album interpret. I'll show you what I did in the screenshots below: (The pictures are too big, so I'll simply link them)
Enter edit mode:

Re-scan and tag is still there:

Try moving the folder to another location.
Do a folderscan.
Clean up the database
Move the folder back to it's Original location.
Do a folderscan.
Subsonic should now pick up the edited tags.
I know it's a lot of work, but I'm beginning to think that this is a database issue and not an issue with the file itself.

Nope, didn't help. I just ask myself where it gets the Album info from. It's not in the tags, so it has to add that itself somehow, right?
Edit: nvm

To be honest, my guess is that the songs are given the album automatically because they are in the root folder of the artist. Maybe it's being read as artist? I can change the album to anything except not to "nothing" as in a blank field. Maybe Sindre can say something about this?

I see in my setup that the foldername is used as albumname when the album tag is empty.
You can change the album tag to empty in Subsonic. '
I just tried it with one of my albums.
I deleted the album tag and updated all songs by using the SET option for all songs, saved it and got "Updated" with every song.
Using MP3Tag to check showed that in all songs the albumtag was empty.
I guess you got confused because even if you change the albumtag, Subsonic still keeps displaying what it thinks the tag should be, based on the foldername.

Yes, that's about it. The tags are indeed empty, I checked with multiple programs. The thing is that if there is a .mp3 in the artist-root folder, that folder shows up under "recently added albums" and it doesn't have any cover, which is ugly. I'll do it as I said in the other thread "artist singles" probably. I'm not that much into structure either, but I do want my subsonic to look nice and have many albums without album cover, which in my opinion looks ugly. I'll create single folders over time and clean that up I suppose.
I'd be nice tho if subsonic would "know" that an artist dir is the artist dir and not an album dir.

I understand your way of thinking.
Since I've been using Subsonic for some years now I learned to first edit all tags to my liking before I moved the files to the media folders,
There's still a lot of files without proper tagging in my collection, but I'll get to them one day, I think.
